Pop tart kid turned out to be a bunch of sensationalist media bullshit:

quote:

“The student in this case had a long history of behavioral problems that were the subject of progressive intervention by the school,” the state board concluded. “He created a classroom disruption on March 1, 2013, which resulted in a suspension that was justified based on the incident in question and the student’s history.”

--

“It’s been about a student with a long history of disciplinary issues and a school that has gone to every conceivable length to assist that student with those issues,” Mosier said.

School officials have argued that the two-day suspension came as a last resort following repeated problems and that it was not about a gun or a pastry.

Defacing public art installations because their subjects are no longer en vogue is A Bad Thing. If they're truly objectionable, there are established processes to have them removed. Cleaning off that spray paint consumes public funds that could be used for [thing you want].

Nobody said that they had to be cleaned though.

Also the established processes for removing public art installations are sometimes worse than the unofficial ones. :v:

Agreed, every historical monument or landmark that is not 100% in line with current ideological sensibilities should be erased or destroyed.

Protip: they're going to be cleaned. We don't tear down statues because someone threw some paint on them.

(Edit: throwing paint on a thing is not an official procedure. You have hearings, there's an appeals process, then you take them down in an orderly fashion.)

So you're saying that any attempt to get the offending statue removed via official procedures would be futile anyway?

Salman Taseer, governor of Punjab, wanted to reform Pakistan's blasphemy laws after Asia Bibi, a Christian, was sentenced to death.

One of Taseer's bodyguards, Mumtaz Qadri, assassinated him in response. Qadri was executed last month.

Today a suicide bombing occurred at a park in Lahore, capital of Punjab, killing mostly women and children. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif previously had been accused of tolerating militancy in exchange for relative peace in Punjab.

25,000 demonstrators now are surrounding the Parliament House in Islamabad in support of "hero of Islam" Qadri. The army has been requested to restore order. Possible overthrow imminent?

Are there crimes for which the only appropriate punishments are unethical? If you're responsible for the violent deaths of several dozen people, primarily women and children, is life imprisonment or a clean and relatively painless execution an inadequate response?

Should we be setting more people on fire?

Pic unrelated.

Only until mortals master the art of necromancy and immortality will we be able to come up with the creative and idiosyncratic punishments heinous crimes deserve. Maybe Hell and Purgatory don't exist but virtual reality and the technology to elongate a brains shelf-life to freakishly long time periods does.

Well, filthy christians, and other non-muslims, shouldn't be drinking the same water as honorable and decent people.

quote:

Noreen was involved in an argument with a group of Muslim women with whom she had been harvesting berries after the other women grew angry with her for drinking the same water as them. She was subsequently accused of insulting the Islamic prophet Muhammad, a charge she denies, and was arrested and imprisoned. In November 2010, a Sheikhupura judge sentenced her to death. If executed, Noreen would be the first woman in Pakistan to be lawfully killed for blasphemy.

The verdict, which was reached in a district court and would need to be upheld by a superior court, has received worldwide attention. Various petitions, including one that received 400,000 signatures, were organized to protest Noreen's imprisonment, and Pope Benedict XVI publicly called for the charges against her to be dismissed. She received less sympathy from her neighbors and Islamic religious leaders in the country, some of whom adamantly called for her to be executed. Christian minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti and Pakistani politician Salmaan Taseer were both killed for advocating on her behalf and opposing the blasphemy laws

Wait till they find out gay and lesbian people can go into bathrooms and LOOK AT DONGS AND HEE-HAWS WITH IMPUNITY. Although I think that'll result in having public bathrooms staffed 24/7 with an opposite-sex person at the door with whom you must totally make out with in order to enter.

Don't worry, good people of NC - we know this person to actually be a female.
