Man FF15 is actually the most hetero looking Final Fantasy since 2. Seriously, just a bunch of twinks in modern fashion taking a trip and being friends. Nothing in that game will live up to the pure gay perfection of Kuja So beautiful ZenMasterBullshit fucked around with this message at 20:28 on Mar 27, 2016 |

If 15's combat is anything like Agito I'll be happy. If 15's world is handled like 13-3 then I'll be happy. I am expecting a completely stupid story just from that trailer of Jesus looking dude holding the kid and giving a speech about something I already forgot about by now. If the characters are total bros then that'll probably redeem the story for me.

On to the end boss rush. First up was a lovely gold dragon. Then a bunch of robots you had to refight every time you went into the last dungeon. Black dragon. Pretty much the same as the other ones. After this is another semi-long 5 floor dungeon wherein the game decides to be extremely generous and just starts dumping Trifluids at you ever 3 steps or so. Lassic at last! Who knows why you spent half the game searching for the Laconic weapons and gear to beat him, because as it turns out he's weak to the same thing everything else is: Bullets. Course that can't be the real final boss after all, this is Phantasy Star. Seems legit. I think you got it figured out Myau. Here's Dark Falz (who does not appear out of a treasure box this game!), I gotta say he looks really drat good in this version. All of his attacks have unique big animations, very cool! His most dangerous attack is actually a full party poison, that does ~100 to everyone off the bat, and then 100 more every turn afterwards. There's no full party cure spell so this is actually pretty dangerous. Fortunately, Dark Falz is also weak to bullets, and as such goes down to Odin still using the Rifle he found half way through the game (which is far and away the strongest weapon in the game). Not much left but the ending. Whew, well that's Phantasy Star 1 cleared. Only took 17 hours, which I was more than thankful for after the long and painful stretches on Dezoria.

I keep telling myself to finish PSG1 but never quite get around to it. I really liked what little I played. Of course, before that I was telling myself to finish the original Master System version for literal decades, so I guess that follows.

It's a cute but simple little game. The part that makes it really rough is the encounter rate just being out of control. Even running or casting Flee every fight, still takes forever. Dezoria is really the massive lowpoint in the game though, the whole planet has 2 towns, the encounter rate is very high everywhere, the enemies are pretty durable, traveling everywhere on the overworld is just dungeon after dungeon, everytime you want to return to town to heal you've gotta truck back through like 30 random encounters just to get to where you were. And it's just about 5 full dungeons in a row to get a bunch of key items you need. And there's basically no story or anything between segments of all this. It's really insane how powerful buffs and debuffs are. The Black Dragon's normal attack does like, 500 damage (which was about my max on most characters), but you can use Shield to reduce it by ~50% and then you can use Scare to debuff his attack by another 50%. Or I should say, you pretty much have to if you don't want to die.

corn in the bible posted:now play the ps2 remake I was debating doing this but I think I will take a break in between the two. I've heard the PS2 remake has a pretty similar encounter rate, which is a much bigger problem because it's a longer game, the dungeons are absolutely insane, and your chance to run isn't nearly as good. Rascyc posted:I should play Phantasy Star 4 again. It seems like such a great game in my memory. It still holds up fairly well. Still has a fair amount of encounters, but it moves really fast, the combat system is more interesting, your party gets swapped around constantly to keep things fresh, and it's pretty well paced overall. Plus it's got really sick music and bosses. And Demi.

Phantasy Star IV probably holds up about as well as Chrono Trigger and other late-gen 16-bit RPGs. I played it sometime last year and I can't really think of anything I'd want to change, aside from maybe bits of the camp menu system, but that's more of a modernization than an actual necessary fix. It's a shame Sega Ages was canned before that remake could happen. PSIV's encounter rate is a little high but macros and the total lack of load times make it a non-issue in most cases. It's pretty comparable to Suikoden and its Auto command in terms of speed: in and out in seconds for most enemy groups. Gwyrgyn Blood posted:Plus it's got really sick music and bosses. And Demi. Laughter is probably my favourite boss theme of all time. Sega basically laid down a wicked drum & bass track using the Genesis sound chip, it's the best. Modern Phantasy Star losing that weird dark electronic tone immediately on newer hardware was disappointing. We got a remix of the PSII intro stinger and that was it.

Yeah the Macro system is really handy, especially considering the combo attacks in PS4. The boss track in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQQXKH_XXh4 The whole soundtrack is extremely solid though. 1&2's are pretty solid as well. And 3's is mostly just poo poo as you would expect, though there's 2-3 songs on it that are actually pretty decent.

Give them dumb excuses to take their shirts off or throw in a pointless hot springs scene or they sleep in their car piled in the backseat just loving cheesecake this game up. Wasn't this basically Kingdom Hearts? As I recall, Sora ditches the girl about halfway through the game and spends the ending of Kingdom Hearts 2 literally pawing at Riku's rear end while going into flowering detail about how much he loves their, uh, friendship.
