Or maybe his landlord are my wife's grandparents. They can't be assed to evict the lady renting from them because she's got children and don't want them on the street, despite being multiple months behind.

Indiana gives you a 20% tax credit on the first $5,000 a year. Worth starting if you expect to have kids or expect to accidentally have some.

You can always use the money to go back to school in retirement like Rodney Dangerfield.

I live in Chicago, not Indiana. Pretty sure there's a state tax break here too, but I have some debt repayment and house down payment saving to address first (bad with money).

Of all the tax breaks to eliminate - savings for college? Really?

Counterargument: indirect funding (via tax breaks, loan backstops, etc) of primarily debt-financed, consumer-irrational markets like housing and higher education hasn't really done anything except enable inflation in the base prices of those products.

Do you really think $60k/year art schools would exist in any significant number if Uncle Sam didn't backstop and subsidize the poo poo out of student loans? The current system is worse than having no intervention at all, because all it does is enable transfer of money (via higher prices) from students to university administrators and the contractors who build ridiculous sports arenas.

The GWM solution for society is direct government intervention: state-owned schools that charge low tuition and force comparable schools to compete instead of entering an events center & advertising arms race. But we've been gutting that and replacing it with loan programs, because they push those costs off onto the students.

I really appreciate this tax credit because last year my wife's parents needed to find every credit possible, so they contributed what i'm pretty sure is the max amount to the 529 we set up for our daughter. But that's GWM, not bad.

Was he a diving horse suffering from the bends because he is too stupid to stay alive while thinking of ants, let alone properly scuba dive?

From 'go peacefully into heaven' to 'haunt the poo poo out of every horse show ever' how pissed would you be to be killed by an exploding hyperbaric chamber full of charbroiled horse?

It's deductible for state tax purposes, up to $20000 in contributions. So, what is our state tax rate now? 5%? So you can save up to $1000 on your state taxes.

There's a claim made that the pressure relief valve didn't operate. That is probably made up nonsense stated by an emergency worker that attended the scene. It's more likely that the fire overpressure was so rapid it would need something closer to an explosion vent to function correctly. The designer of the chamber is probably able to be charged with negligence. Metal chamber for horses with metal shoes filled with oxygen seems right at the top of the list of dangerous hazards.

I think a lot of the hilarity is because of how unforced the errors are. Kids, weddings, cars, these are all things that society pushes onto us. But horses?

Same goes for boats, now that I think of it. Boats are like the man analogue of horses.
