One thing I'm still trying to make sense of is EightAce's latest confirmation of Derek's current information. It would seem they are in complete agreement on things - and yet at last count they held opposing views on CIG cash reserves, with Derek calling the cupboard bare and EightAce saying they had more than enough cash to weather the year.

Cash more than anything else is determines the health of the concern, and if they truly are facing bankruptcy, Chris and Erin certainly aren't doing themselves favors in any future class action lawsuit by talking up their forward projections.

I'm still inclined to assume their cash is healthier than we suspect. If it isn't, then I will have to revise my opinions of them downward, which would amaze me in Chris' case and disappoint me in Erin's.

It's not.

I managed to stumble upon the answer about 24 hours ago after working out how LoB worked. Neat.

Sperg talk:
Assuming you figured out the Library reference and wanted to brute force while somehow managing to be as unlucky as possible:
Fourth clue points you straight to it.
Third clue gives you 410 pages to sift through(this is why we saw a sudden spike in 'got its!' after that clue, the threshold was much lower)
Second clue gets you to 13120 pages to sift through. People getting it here almost certainly did some sort of scripting.
First clue gets you to 65600 pages to sift through.
Beer's post alone would be 262400 pages.

I'd say pre third clue it was either being *very* bored at work, or writing a script to scan the anglicized pages for a certain amount of consecutive highlighted text.

Obviously you know something we don't, but CIG seems to be acting as if everything is normal and business as usual. I mean they're still hiring people and making mouse pads sized for literal whales. Chris Roberts doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who keeps real cool under fire, he can't even hold back from spontaneously adding features when asked questions by his fans. He would be panicking and making all kinds of changes imo if money was running out.

As someone pointed out, at that point you can just download the search space and have the most basic editor go through it. I didn't get until the third one because I hadn't played around enough with the site to recognise they keywords that pointed the way until then. :(

There was really no need to brute force it - for example, Derek's clues led me to the right site. Beer's hex plus the first two clues leaves you with 13120 pages to sift through. gently caress that noise, so I downloaded the 32 text files and let Windows search indexing do the heavy lifting. The hard part was zeroing in on keywords. In desperation I typed "gently caress". Enlightenment followed.

That's a cool approach. It also makes me think that doing the reverse would be viable to keep a secret. Give out the wall, shelf, volume, and page but keep the hex itself.

Ragequit posted:

It was. Originally it was going to be an April Fool's Joke, but I decided that it would be too obvious if all the clues came in on the same day. Derek took the hints to 11. The biblical reference in particular was perfect.
