Zereth posted:Okay so now the question becomes: It's not a property of the mushrooms given how the people who actually know about those mushrooms freak when it does work. Big Boss is just an Ork and so when he really believes "glowing mushrooms recharge batteries" it becomes true. Goes some way to explaining all the other weirdness about him like "considers guns a danger but can hold and even throw up an apartment sized super-robot that is trying to crush him". He knows 'bullets/fire/explosions hurt and kill people' so they hurt him but never quite worked out 'humans should not be able to lift 1000+ tonnes that is trying to squish them' so he can. Fun facts about Big Boss: - Scared of Vampires - Can lift giant robots when necessary - Speaks Cat - May or may not have killed and eaten a dinosaur at one point - Knows Kojima personally - Might know Santa personally - Has met an unreasonable amount of ghosts - One of those ghosts gave him magical uniforms that made him hard to see, the other one gave him a magical uniform that made him a kinda vampire - Balloons

Solid Snake just looks so sad during MGS 4 Yeah, a lot of people complained that we didn't get to see Big Boss become a bad guy in MGS V, but if you read between the lines in Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, he already was. He's pretty much on the road to Metal Gear 1 in Peace Walker, but all the anime silliness tends to distract people from it.

This is true but Also at the end of MGSV Venom Snake turns the tape he got from Big Boss around and the other side has Operation Intrude N313 on it. This implies that while Venom Snake was the one there during the game, he was ultimately taking ordersfrom Big Boss.

I guess now that the series is dead () Zanzibar Land's deadly poisonous hamsters are all on Boss's head forevermore. I disagree about what that implies. If anything, destroying a loyal soldier's appearance and personality so they can take the fall for him makes Big Boss an even worse person than if he'd just done it himself. If anything, I feel like Kojima doesn't like the idea of the player playing as the villain, which is why venom snake actually faces his demons and becomes a better person than big boss over the course of that game.

In a happier world... "Ladies and gentlemen. I've never been known as a great public speaker." "You're the best, Boss!" and "Vic Boss!" cries from the audience. The speaker ignores them. "Therefore I'll keep this short. As some of you know, my former boss Major Tom (FOX, Ret.) and I once had a coworker. She was a mentor to me, and even more than that. She was like a mother to me, and was the mother of my good friend Adamska, or, as you know him, Ocelot. Can we get a round of applause for Ocelot?" Ocelot, in the front row, bashfully turns away while the speaker does the gesture towards him. "You all have heard of this woman as The Boss, the mother of the Special Forces, the commander of the Cobra Unit, the reason we won World War II. I knew her as a brave, loyal soldier who would risk everything for those she served even at the cost of her health, reputation, and life." Dr. Strangelove breaks down sobbing. "She had a vision...a vision of a world where all soldiers could be honored to their contribution to society and have their desires to fight celebrated. A world where they'd be free of those who would cynically pit them against each other. A world where soldiers, regardless of nation, creed, or ideology, can always have a place and will not be discarded like rusty weapons. That's why Major Tom and I are so proud today to announce the grand opening of the Outer Heaven Old Soldiers' Home!" "Vic Boss!" "We love you, Boss!" "I couldn't do this without my friends and comrades. Col. Roy Campbell, who has headed the FOXHOUND team since I left, has assembled one of the finest teams of soldiers on the face of the planet, all of whom will one day live in this facility, and he has kindly offered the service of one Psycho Mantis as a part-time counselor and therapy specialist to our team. Stand up, Roy!" Campbell stands and waves. "My best friend, Master Kazuhiro Miller, was unable to attend today. He's with one of my sons filming a very special documentary about Alaskan wildlife, but I can tell you now that both Kaz and Liquid are present in our hearts today. I hope you all watch "Can I Eat It? Alaska Edition" on the Discovery Channel every week...Liquid and Kaz make a fantastic team." "A man is blessed by family, and I am proud that two of my sons are here today. Every father wishes his son could grow up to be President of the United States, and I couldn't be prouder of my son, Former President George Sears, or, as I still call him, Solidus." Crowd cheers enthusiastically as Solidus waves. "I don't think it would surprise any of you to hear that this place probably wouldn't exist without the assistance of my son. Though he has surpassed me in many ways, Solidus has always honored me in ways I can hardly imagine. Is...yes, my grandson is here today. Take a bow, Jack!" Raiden stands, embarrassed, and waves. "Many of you remember how my son adopted a Liberian child soldier and renamed him with my name, Jack. Jack has turned out to be a fine young man and I see he's here with his girlfriend Rose. I hope he'll carry the name Jack better than I did." "My other son hasn't been in the public eye as much, but is no less dear to me. Stand up, Dave!" Dave/Solid Snake, and Hal Emmerich/Otacon stand. "Dave, or Solid, as I still think of him, was with FOXHOUND for many years and achieved a reputation as a legendary soldier in his own right, even eclipsing mine. I'd tell you stories about him, but most are still classified. What isn't classified is that he and his life partner, Hal Emmerich, the son of my late comrade Huey, have significantly furthered the cause of world peace through their anti-nuclear activism and have recently adopted a daughter, Sunny. My granddaughter is both cute and brilliant and makes a mean sunny-side-up egg." "It is my hope that Outer Heaven will provide an option for soldiers with nowhere else to go, a home of last resort for all those who feel the world has no more use for them. I'd like to announce how proud I am that my friend Major Tom will be the first chairman of Outer Heaven. Tom is a true patriot and with him in charge I have zero concerns for the future. Thank you very much." Applause and cheers of "Long Live Big Boss" fill the room.

In MGS 3, Big Boss turned against the US because they forced the Boss to lose her identity, become someone she wasn't, and give up her life and legacy for their purposes, in MGS V, Big Boss forces Venom to lose his identity, become someone he wasn't and give up their live and legacy for his purposes And that's before the Metal Gear 1 stuff where he lied to the US and used Foxhound for his own purposes, or created two rogue nuclear states that used child labour and purposefully threatened world peace to get back at an old British Man. At the end of Phantom Pain you learn he was poisoned by Skullface while Big Boss was in a coma and was slowly becoming a vegetable. At the time the game takes place he was already effectively "dead". The Patriots were being run by Sigint/the AIs by that point.

Phantom Pain retconned it as Skull Face hit him with a virus that turned him into a vegetable, and he felt super bad about being such a dick post-Snake Eater and worked with Big Boss and Ocelot to create Venom Snake to atone for their conflict. Which badly contradicts 4, where Big Boss still expresses the belief that Zero caused everything and doesn't mention forgiveness even once.,

Ocelot is gayer than my boyfriend, who is dating a man. The only man Ocelot didn't betray or ruse was Big Boss. This includes Ocelot rusing Ocelot at least twice. Frankly the entire MGS series is about Ocelot's mancrush saving the world against Zero being a dumbass.
