Really liked the ALEPH changes so far. Most were mild, as makes sense for a strong faction. Removing 360 Visors from the long-range Thorakitai stops the lazy Sup.Fire party I've seen some players pull off.

But Andromeda feels rather meh; not much reason to take her over a naga FO/hacker. Feels like they designed her banking on Guardian being really, really strong, and when it turned out a minor skill they forgot to give her a proper specialization.

Went to Adepticon for Infinity. Got a chance to play in both the Campaign and the two day Grand tournaments. Was a lot of fun. Need to give a big shout out to the Chicago Infinity crew for being some of the friendliest dudes with which I've ever played games. I was pretty nervous going into the tournament, as I live in the boondocks of a flyover state with only two buds who play at a FLGS. We hardly have a representative mix of playstyles and armies. In addition, Infinity is my first war game, and the Adepticon tournament was the first tournament for any nerd biz in which I've ever competed. Thankfully, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, so any newbie-jitters quickly went away.

In the Campaign, I went 2-1, and ended up taking 10th, which was top half, and big morale victory for me. For tenth place, I got a neat FRRM button and the glory of beating my friend who placed 11th.

In the Grand, I went 5-1, and ended up taking 2nd overall. Lost to the 1st place player, and beat the 3rd place player. I'm incredibly happy with my performance and ranking. 2nd place won me a $100 dollar coupon for a terrain company and a ticket to the invitation-only tournament at GenCon. I'm psyched, as the 1st place player in the invitational gets a reserved slot, plane ticket, and hotel in Spain to play at Interplanetario representing the USA. I'm even more psyched at the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the States and see what sort of post-Human Sphere lists we'll running into!

I wanted to thank everybody in this thread for answering all my questions and getting me hyped about Infinity in the first place. Here's hoping I can represent SA well at GenCon.

:yikes: indeed. This kind of thing gets people kicked out of my LGS. Different strokes I guess.

I haven't posted any painting in any thread for a hundred years, but I had an hour before my back exploded as it does when I paint, and finally got some colour blocked in on my planet of the apes space marines:

I know better than to paint yellow over black, but I kind of want the armor to look dinged up and rough. I didn't realise til the picture was taken how bad the blue looks though. Lots of cleanup to do before I start doing details and bases, but at least I've got a starting point.

Vanilla! Don't fall for the allure of the Link Team.

For reals though, pre-HS I didn't feel that any of the Ariadna sectorials are worth sacrificing the flexibility of the entire roster. Post-HS, I have no idea. So many of the sectorials got neat stuff.

The scottish have the best dogs, the ruskies have Spetznaz & Tankhunters, US Ariadna has the best cheerleaders/mavericks, the french have chasseurs. Vanilla's best for more or less every faction apart from ALEPH.

There are a few sectorials that are side-grades to a vanilla faction, and some sectorials that are well below just taking vanilla. Maybe I'm just biased, as dismantling link teams is something that seems to come really naturally to an army with dedicated, fast close-combat specialists.

The Tournament is using Pre-HS I believe. I think I'll probably try and shoehorn my biker gang into a Vanilla list because those are the units I love the most from USARF. Also probably some II grunts with Flame throwers because they're too good not to.

Using Kazaks, Scouts, Tank Huntersm and Spetznaz are pretty much what are convincing me to move away from sectorial for this tournament. Also the fact that I bought some on sale recently helps. But seriously, I can make a combat group entirely out of camo markers now and that is just disgusting and mean.

The other thing swaying me is that my regular opponents are Haqq (Assassins) and PanO (vanilla). Neither of them rely on MI as their mainstays like USARF do, and so they can run circles around me. Sure, it evens out that MI moving and shooting is the same as LI or HI. But repositioning takes me extra orders. I know I'll make mistakes with deployment and prioritizing my moves (because I've come to realize that as much as I like war games - I am not good at them), so using troops with 4-4 MOV will probably help mitigate my brain farts.

USAriadna has some mean link teams you can form, but they are pretty pricey and draw you away from Aridana's greatest strength: Camo Tokens.

If you are just learning, maybe go with USAridana and form a camo light list. You can learn link teams and not have to deal with having 10+ camo tokens on the field.

Edit: I mainly play against ALEPH with my Ariadna. What unit's should I bring?

What's the quintessential ITS-minmaxed Ariadna horde list? 2-3 Irmandinhos, 2-4 Galwegians, 2 Chasseur FOs, 2-3 Foxtrot FOs, 2 tankhunter HMGs or 1 and 1 Spetsnaz HMG, 2 chain Volunteers, 112, pad the rest with cheap basic troops you hide the LT in? Optionally add a Paracommando FO or Antipode pack?

tokenbrownguy

I'd take Van Zant over the Paracommando and a Cameronian over the pack. Sprinkle in a Dozer and a hacker/bot for Highly Classified and you're pretty much good to go.

I meant minmaxed Ariadna, so no bots, and Van Zant is never ever used in those as too expensive (that's 17 extra points!). Cameronian is the other option I considered but forgot to add. Dozer is useless when you already have 2/3 engineers.

In slightly more seriousness, I admit I'm pretty curious how a list concentrating entirely on numbers performs in an Annihilation round. Can you actually make up for quality with quantity, or are you just going to get mowed down by AROs?

Pierzak
Oct 30, 2010
Are we going for a straight firefight scenario, or ITS Annihilation, with classifieds, timed rounds and all? The first reminds me of the old "17 Keisotsu vs the Avatar" batrep, the second would be kinda draining. I like Annihilation as a palate cleanser, not a slog.

Also, two total reaction bots and an Enhanced Reaction MSV2 bot would make mincemeat out of it unless heavily supported by Galwegian smoke.

Assuming actual-factual ITS Annihilation, attempting to keep all your points and SWC costs as low as possible per-model. I guess if you practiced you could get moving your gigantic Kazak or Fusilier swarm up the board inside the time limits.
