I would think the ideal Eisenhorn game would be a reskin of KOTOR. Have your full retinue with you which have different abilities you can command, have multiple planets you can hop between so you get that galactic campaign feeling of hunting dirty xenos and hereticus across planet after planet, some cool dialogue options and stuff like that.

"Eisenhorn, do you rescue your partner or do you continue to pursue your foe at all costs?"

If you could actually work Chaos Corruption into the game as the 'morality system' and have increasing power for Eisenhorn as you give in but changing his appearance and dialgoue would be pretty sweet too. Or for that matter it could be a Puritan / Amalathianism vs Radical thing too.

Actually eisenhorn strikes me more as an isometric rpg Ala baldur's gate. Or that new one obsidian is working on called tyranny. In that one you are part of the clean up crew after evil defeats good in the final battle and you're a high ranking lieutenant who helped win the war.

And sometimes I think about setting a story after Last Night On Call, but it would be tricky to write, and it would disrupt the closure that the storyline currently has.

They run with idea a lot, actually. Off the top of my head, there's "Sons of Dorn" and "Space Wolf" which both start with teenagers getting recruited, turned into baby marines, and their first adventure as a Scout/Blood Claw.

Thanks for the Titan-related recommendations, I'll look into them. Something I'm after in particular is a look at the internal hierarchy, workings etc. of the Collegia Titanica (especially the Military Orders), but from what I've read on various wikis it doesn't look like that stuff has ever been fleshed out to any major degree.

:aaa: I had no idea this was coming out. I hope it'll be decent at least, though with the devs apparently only having one other, iOS game to their name, who knows. The gameplay teaser does make it look a little janky, but they might still nail the fluff/story/characters, right?

You could always set it from the viewpoint of some new guy entering the Inquisition squad and making a brief note about the Xeno-looking dude who always keeps to himself.

Yes, that's one of the ways I've thought about doing it - taking the perspective of, most likely, the ex-Guard medic who is introduced as the listener at the end of Last Night On Call. The other way would be keeping the perspective of the former orderly, and if I did that, I could potentially get into some really interesting material, if the orderly ends up inheriting some of Doc Eldar's memories. Having flashbacks of actually being Doc Eldar could give lots of material to write about, but I'm not sure I really want to take the story that way. Maybe it's better never seeing things from his perspective? I really don't know, I've been thinking about it ever since I wrote that piece, and that was a couple years ago now. Still haven't made any conclusions, so until then I'll just keep writing "normal" Doc Eldar stories.

Azubah posted:

Indeed she is, and writing stories 8, 9, and 10 without mentioning the gender of the narrator required some careful word choices, especially once there were more speaking characters. But it is an interesting challenge. I had originally thought of the narrator as a man, and then somewhere around the second or third story I realized I'd never defined them one way or another, and decided to make them a woman but not reveal it until the very end of the final piece.

I'm glad you liked the Ork piece, I thought it was one of my weaker ones so I'm happy to hear it was enjoyed. Doing a compare-and-contrast of Doc Eldar against other xenos is definitely possible, I could definitely do one with a Tau doctor, say (which would mostly involve the Tau being in a constant state of :stonk: )

Right now I'm working on the next piece, which is going to be a short one and is focused mostly on world-building. Writing about daily life in the grim dark future is surprisingly fun.

He turns out to be pretty important because he's the last of the Imperial Fists at the time, and pulls a bunch of the IF Successor Chapters in the Phall system back into a sort of temporary Legion again.

I hear you on that. I wish I still had my old copy of Chaos Child by Ian Watson. I never read the other two books in the series, as I didn't have them, but it was definitely an enjoyable read, even with all of the odd things likethe Imperial Fist getting captured by the Thousand Sons, turned into a Thousand Sons Space Marine, but breaking the spell at the last second because of the power of friendship. (He lost his entire squad before this and carved each of their names onto his arm bone. These names end up speaking to him and break the spell) Also, there is a Squat character, which I always thought was odd as I had no idea what a squat was (started playing in 05) so I thought he was a midget.
