Prequel has had some great updates that involved the main character getting her act together and getting poo poo done, but an IndieGoGo for merch hasn't helped a turnaround of roughly three months to every update, and the last two were (admittedly good) side stories. Kaz is pretty good at organizing IndieGoGos (he did a big Lego drive for hospitalized kids one or two Christmases ago) but not so much at updating his mostly text-based webcomic.

Having to do the peripheral stuff really kills you. It's not that comics tend to die out "just as they get successful", it's that metrics of success correspond closely with the massive transition to operating a business.

I think the pretension he drapes his webcomic in really does hurt it because your knee jerk reaction to stuff like this is to just roll your eyes. It also doesn't help that seriously that's all this stupid thing has updated what the gently caress

Yeah, Dresden Kodak is Diaz's fetish in visual form, but he tries to present it as an amazing feminist work and that's pretty lovely of him. Even moreso how he ignores or outright insults women who call him on his poo poo, like his fight with Mary Cagle. The dude's ego is massive and he's not nearly as competent as he thinks he is, but his fake progressivism and that his ideals exist entirely in a "do as I say, not as I do" way (except of course he'll never admit that he doesn't at all live up to them) is the worst bit.

There have only been 62 new pages since 2008. That's drat near a decade of absolute toss.

i liked dresden codak when it was just a series of one-off comics then it didn't matter how long it took because there wasn't much continuity, and it was just kind of pretentiously goofy, i actually bought a poster of "harvet whatever's 42 essential third act twists" to put on my wall in college also, i liked the run of filler comics, the one where the guy on the moon eats an egg and becomes god was fun it's disappointing he's revealed himself to be kind of a jerk

AriadneThread posted:i liked dresden codak when it was just a series of one-off comics Yeah, I miss when DC was just a comic about abstract one-shot science/philosophy gags, because I will easily admit that Diaz can write some interesting concepts when he's not trying to spin a big dumb story out of it. Gratuitous boob shots aside, I think my favorite one was the page where Kim wakes up in a strange world full of symbiotic creatures and it just turns out to be an alt-prehistory fanfic so she could ship herself with her physics T.A.
