 Turns out that this gentleman (Otto Skorzeny, legendary Waffen-SS officer and reputedly Hitler's "favourite soldier") started working for the Mossad in 1962, where he was complicit in the assassination of German scientist Heinz Krug as well as letter-bombing five Egyptians to death - all of them worked for the Egyptian missile programme. Why he did this is unknown, possibly as part of a deal where his work would get him stricken off the Nazi war criminals list. At one point Skorzeny even visited Yad Vashem, where another visitor of the museum recognised him so that his Mossad handler had to defuse the situation by claiming that he was a relative of his who had survived the Holocaust himself. When Skorzeny died in Spain in 1975, his ashes were buried in Vienna. His former handler attended the funeral, amongst dozens of "old comrades" who didn't hesitate to see Skorzeny off by giving the urn the Hitler salute. You couldn't make this story up if you tried.

As it turns out all that relies what he told us and at the very least he lied when he claimed to join the Nazis in 1939 when he actually joined in 1937. The V2 rocket was built with slave labor which he claimed to find abhorrent, but testimony from surviving prisoners is pretty damning. They claim he ordered beatings and punishments and even went to concentration camps to pick new slaves. Everyone was willing to overlook some pretty horrendous stuff to get the upper hand against the communists/capitalists.
