TheQuietWilds posted:That's not the worst, you can def make it by 2020. You lucked out not having to take organic chemistry or organic lab. My school makes you take labs for Micro as well, which sucks. Take Micro and Genetics at the same time for the overlap in material. I should say that while I'm not quite starting from scratch completely, the bit of bullshit on my transcripts doesn't really make much of an (uncharitable) dent in the rest of the normal Bachelors requirements so it's going to be a little bit of a longer road than that. If I've got room to use the recommended courses to pad out the rest of the general Bachelors requirements then cool, but I'm not going to freak out and run around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to hand-jam them into my schedule. EDIT: Summer A&P I/II? I don't think I could afford enough lisdexamfetamine to survive that. Diarrhea Elemental fucked around with this message at 01:30 on Apr 6, 2016 |

TheQuietWilds posted:Lol I hope you guys aren't planning on taking Orgo or Biochem because it gets so much very worse than that Carbonate isn't one of our choices of reagent, but not my problem anyway. The precipitates I form with the NH3 will be aluminum hydroxide and iron hydroxide, because that NH3 will make the solution basic. The last step shown there is to hose those down with the high molarity NaOH solution, which should result in that aluminum going into aluminum tetrahydroxide (aq) not entirely sure if I named that right and the iron hydroxide will stay right where it is in that solid precipitate - I don't think it can form a complex ion from those parts.. Thx for the check, though, I was hoping someone here could give me feedback This will be my last chemistry department chemistry, but later I have to take some geochemistry and maybe some kind of paleo-/bio-/etc. stuff that will have chemistry parts to it, but for now my goal is to hit a >72 in this Gen Chem Part Deux and to put it behind me

Well guys, I've got an interview tomorrow with AEI for an internship in their Iran Studies department. For a former neocon thinktank, their scholars produce some decent scholarship on Iran and the greater region. I'm just glad that someone is considering entrusting me with some actual academic work. You know, more than just crayons, fingerpaint, and safety scissors. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

New that was gonna be bag ram batman. gently caress. Also gently caress running in the morning before class or whatever. I fully intend to stay active and healthy but I can't/won't because 1) my legs are hosed and 2) gently caress waking up so early anymore.

Thanks guys. I just got off the hook with the interviewer, and I think it went quite well. She was very interested in hearing about my work with EFPs and finance networks during my 06-07 deployment, as well as my current language skills. She was even interested in my involvement in the little Iranian students association here at Columbia. AEI is actually working on some really cool projects, including summary analysis of the Iranian defense acquisition process using primary materials (in Farsi). If you're not a turbo-nerd like me, this probably doesn't sound very exciting, but as someone who takes this subject very seriously, the prospect of doing this kind of stuff is thrilling. Still, I'll probably lose out to some prep school kid with connections to Cheney, but it's nice to know that they are at least interested in my unique skills and experiences. EDIT: I should add that it was a very free-form interview. Didn't get asked any retarded questions about my weaknesses or times I faced adversity or anything like that. It was refreshingly honest. Geology 101 is cool so far and I'm already pretty sure I'll like going camping and looking at said rocks and maybe bringing a six pack with me while getting paid to not be around people. I'm thinking I really do want to make this a career.

What are you learning about? Commit Bowen's Reaction Series and the definition of a mineral to memory. Professors in later classes will throw those on exams like some 11 general orders bullshit

So far we're just going over visual characteristics of different minerals, with a test in two weeks. Density, hardness, cleavage (lol), metallic/non-metallic, etc. We're using a little box of minerals with some glass and porcelain to test with and figure out those characteristics to help us figure out which one is which. So far I can already easily tell things like pyrite, magnetite, gypsum, graphite, galena. So essentially I'm learning basics for now.

I took Geology class because I was one science credit short, and the advisor said it was the easiest. It ended up being really cool and I enjoyed it quite a bit. All of my road trips to national parks since then have basically been geology field trips. Except, y'know, with an AK.

A decent-paying summer internship at a startup wants a yes/no from me but I'm still interviewing at several other places and expecting a few offers. I wouldn't start at that internship until mid-May, so over a month out. Should I be selfish and just accept the offer now, and back out later if I get a better one? I already told the startup offer that I had some other stuff going on, but they still want a decision from me before I know all of my options. So I can ask for more time to decide, and risk the offer being withdrawn. Or I can accept, and feel slightly bad about backing out if/when I get a better offer elsewhere; >2 weeks before my start date would be "fair" right? There's nothing wrong with this particular offer or company, but I am more interested in some other places I have interviews with. I'm not sure what the appropriate level of honesty is here. I have no idea how to civilian

It's a small world and things like that tend to leave a bad taste in people's mouthes. If it's just an internship, you should probably accept it because there's no guarantee that the other places will hire you. And any experience at this point is more important than "I like this company super best."

Yeah you need to take that paid internship unless there's a compelling reason that you don't want to work for that company.
