Joel posted an update to his MST3K Revival project, and the RiffTrax Live campaign shot past $370K in funding and is now closing in on the final stretch goal.

Some Zappa/MST3K trivia:

quote:

“MST3K… made the late Frank Zappa an instant convert when he channel surfed into “this guy wearing a clown nose and a beanie copter roasting a puppet over an open fire.” The clown was now-departed (and much beloved) Founding Father Joel Hodgson; the roasted puppet was plucky Tom Servo; and Zappa was equally bemused by the cinematic turkeys being roasted for the main course. “He just loved crummy old science fiction movies,” says writer and voice of Servo Kevin Murphy, who thought “Frank Zappa on line one” was a joke until he picked up the phone. And though Zappa died before fulfilling plans to collaborate with Best Brains on a giant spider movie “told from the spider’s point of view,” the Mothers of Invention mastermind would have had a field day digging through the moldy vaults now at MST’s disposal.”

How loving bizarre would that have been?

Jeez, with 6572 backers at the time I'm writing this, I dunno if they can climb all the way to 10k in 29 hours.

Also, one of the Reunion riffs had better be Mike, Joel, and Jonah all together.

Yeah, their last two Kickstarters attracted only 200 backers and change in their last go-rounds. They're taking a pretty big swing here.

Everyone who contributes even a dollar will get those stretch goals for free. That's a pretty drat good deal to get all those commentaries for free. Might be able to convince some people to buy into this, so long they can put up with the long wait time it will take for them to record this.

That lame, since I have no interest in the rewards that require you be in the upper 100 to get. And I noticed my step-sister has Gravity on itunes so I am excited to watch the Mary and Bridget riff more.

The thing is messed up, because now I see the original graphic, with Gravity being the first reward, and Blu-ray the second. Doesn't matter anyway, as both rewards are unlocked.

I just hope they're faster with the mp3 Riffs than they were for Harry Potter Deathly Hallows part 2. If anyone is jumping on Kickstarter for the first time because of this project, they might be taken aback by how long it takes before they get what they paid for.

Cheap as hell since 1971.
They're over 8k backers now, so Daredevil episode 1 is happening.

E: If they keep adding backers at this rate, they'll easily clear 9000 by the end, maybe even 9500.

EDF! EDF! EDF!
I jumped on Kickstarter for the first time to back this project, but I'm a long time Rifftrax follower so the wait won't surprise me. Besides, as cool as the reunion show will be, the REAL draw for me is all those delicious shorts.

It is awesome that the MST3k revival and the reunion show are breathing new life into the classic format. I love Rifftrax just as much as MST3k (maybe even more so), but I do miss moments like Dr. Forrester designing depressing children's toys or Brain Guy carefully picking garbage out of his brain pan. I'm looking forward to the revival and this reunion seems like the perfect way to "pass the torch" as it were.
