At least we can be reasonably sure that Angela Merkel won't appear in the Panama leaks. Simply because I don't think that anybody can imagine Merkel using offshore corporations to evade taxes. By the way, does anybody know how wealthy the Merkels are? Do they even have enough money to do such a thing?

No. She is a lifelong German politician and her husband is a lifelong academic, who might have made some money in the early 90's when he worked in the private sector, but not the "I need an offshore corporation to hide my money" kind of money.

Her husband is a professor, which could mean that he's in the W3 salary group (€5,087.92 in Berlin). Which is more than enough to live comfortably off, but the kind of people who park their millions offshore probably burn through that in a couple hours when hitting the club.

So apparently Austrians are racist shitbags against...Germans? http://diepresse.com/home/science/4963361/In-Osterreich-ist-Deutschsein-ein-Defizit quote:Rassist bin ich keiner. Abstract of the study posted:Von 2002 bis Anfang 2015 hat sich die Zahl der in Österreich lebenden Deutschen auf 170.457 mehr als verdoppelt. Seit 2007 sind die Deutschen die größte Ausländergruppe in Österreich (Statistik_Austria, 2016a), wobei, anders als bei der Einwanderung aus den Nachfolgestaaten Jugoslawiens und aus der Türkei, Einbürgerungen keine Rolle bei der Entwicklung dieser Zahlen spielen (Statistik_Austria, 2016b). Umgekehrt lebten Ende 2014 179.772 ÖsterreicherInnen in Deutschland (Statistisches_Bundesamt, 2016).

You are allowed to make racist jokes about countries that are high enough in the privilege ranking, e.g. it's always okay to joke about Americans and Germans.

I don't think Austrians are capable of joking about Germany though because it always comes out as bitter, jealous complaining. WC 2014 was a magical time for that, I never knew they resented us so much until then.

As a German working in Austria: yes, but whatever. The only thing you need to know is that they have a giant, obvious Minderwertigkeitskomplex and it becomes deeply hilarious whenever they're like "du DEITSCHER woast des ned". It's okay lil' buddies. We don't like you either .

The article comes across as awfully whinny. Also, calling it racism is inappropriate. The difference between Germany is and Austria is cultural, legal and pretty recent after all and I highly doubt there is systematic oppression involved. And given that much of your own identity comes from defining what you are not, I can understand where many Austrians are coming from. There are about ten times as many Germans than there are Austrians, so there is an immense cultural pressure if you want to detain a distinct cultural identity.

Bulgaria? Tunisia? Somalia? Gaza? This whole white privilege wasn't a thing yet when I went to school, so I'm a bit lost here.
