I just started collecting Tyranids, used to play Blood Angels against my friends' chaos, grey knights and tyranids, back in 4th and 5th.

Everybody's running dakkafexes and flyrants, and I can't get over how cool Trygon Primes and Mawlocs are :allears: I don't even care if this isn't the most competitive army, it looks loving amazing (trygons really tower over your enemy as massive tyranids should) and popping out of the ground to flank your enemies is super fun and feels really unique to 'nids, proper fluffy.

It's lucky they're Forgeworld, and expensive even for Forgeworld. I can deal with regular Eldar lists fine, Corsairs are pretty obscene (if pretty to look at on the tabletop).

On a new topic my student grant arrived so I'm rolling ahead with my Tau force. Picked up the Retaliation Cadre box-set and two Start Collecting boxes and my list's looking a little like:

Commander-
Ion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Shield Generator, Stimulant Injector, Puretide Engram Chip, Neuroweb Jammer, Irridium Armour, 2 Marker Drones.

Crisis Team 1-
Paired Fusion Blasters, Stimulant Injectors, 4 Shield Drones, 2 Marker Drones.

Crisis Team 2-
Plasma Rifles, Burst Cannons, Advanced Targeting Systems, 4 Shield Drones, 2 Marker Drones.

Crisis Team 3-
Burst Cannons, Missile Pods, Advanced Targeting Systems, 4 Shield Drones, 2 Marker Drones.

Riptide-
Ion Accelerator, Advanced Targeting Systems, Counterfire Defense Systems.

Broadside Team-
High-Yield Missile Pods, Velocity Trackers, 2 Marker Drones, 4 Shield Drones

If my math's correct that'll come in under 1500pts. Any criticisms? Particularly around the loadouts on Team 2 and 3, still not entirely set on kitting them out like that.

Needs more marker lights. Less shield drones. If your opponent is good, and or your shield drone positioning is not perfect, they will be ineffectual due to the “closest model takes the wound”. Against good opponents they will know to position in such a way that your shield drones are not the closest models. I myself have had limited success with them.

I’d lose the shield drones for more marker lights. Consider a rework on your commander and lose all that offensive stuff. Turn him into a buffmander with no guns. Put him in a unit of 3 suits with plasma rifle/missile pod combo, with a total of 8 marker drones. Use this as a marker light death star that ignores cover and fires as if it were twin linked.

So you commander would look like this…

Commander

Drone Controller (drones in his unit use commanders BS), Command and Control Node (Provides attached unit twin linked if he does not shoot), Multi-Spectrum Sensor Suite (provides unit ignores cover if he does not shoot). Iridium battlesuit for 2+ save.

Attach the commander to the following 3 man suit unit.

2 marker drones, plasma rifle/missile pod, target lock per suit.

This Deathstar will be able to fire all suit based weapons with ignore cover (no marker light consumption) and twin linked at various targets thanks to the target locks. While the drones get to choose the deadliest threat to your army and mark it up with bs 5 twin linked marker lights. Then the rest of your army can chew up those marker lights eliminating the threat they have highlighted.

The rest of your army is fine, though I’d still swap the shield drones for marker drones. In-case your big marker unit gets wiped out. I’d also consider at the very least one Monat (single suit unit) with double fusion blaster for deep strike disruption. The rest of your army can be tailored to your meta and will work well with the marker deathstar and monat.

*edit* I run that suit deathstar along side a single double fusion suit, a hammerhead, a single piranah, a 3 man stealth suit unit,a riptide, and two fully kitted out fire warrior units with a fireblade.
I have a habbit of deep steiking the whole command unit. So my games look like the last defense of the Alamo. That is until I drop the mic and my suits slam in from the rear.

Sorry for some of the shorthand. Composing this on my phone as work blocks sa.

Been working on terrain over the last few weeks, thought I'd share some images. I'm trying to base more of my buildings, so the table is convertible into a cityfight board when called for. So far I have two buildings based, and plan to do two more this week:

Note: Coffee stirrers are the loving best for making terrain

And here's the current table. I'm a big fan of maps/tables with a 3-dimensional aspect to them, so I'm working on creating lots of wide, passable elevated spaces with bridges between them. As part of this, I've been building a section of raised highway, and I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out:

And here's an alternate "airfield" layout I'm working on:

We have a HR that after a Trygon or Mawloc enter, any unit in reserve can deploy from the hole instead of flanking or deployment. "Ring" them around the 5" blast and from there fill them in.

The hole itself has 3 "wounds" and is T4, and can be targetted even if another unit is on it- and if the hole is closed the unit on it takes D3 wounds with no saves allowed.

My idea for the Trygon tunnel is to treat it like the escort rule for Stormtalons. At deployment you may select one unit to go into reserve with the Trygon. You roll once for reserves on both of them, then deep strike the Trygon and place the other unit wholly within 6" of where the Trygon ends up. Could do some pretty sweet stuff with a rule like that.

Rules are out for the 30th anniversary Marine. It's a normal statline marine, has a CCW, disintegrator pistol, and combi-disintegrator (which can fire more than once per game). Pistol is 9" S5 AP2 Gets Hot and Instant Death, regular disintegrator is the same but 18" and Rapid Fire. It says that it replaces one Space Marine in your army at no additional points cost.
