It was a pretty big violation of the Concorde agreement, being an old Benetton. In addition Arrows balked when they wanted to use Megatron-BMW motors as opposed to the Hart engines like originally planned

Understandable on Arrows part, didn't the B186 pretty much mop the floor against them and Brabham?

As a new fan, these older cars are absolutely insane. Is there a decent resource for seeing some of the crazier designs and whether they were any good or not?

The BT55 and A9 were not good cars, the BT55 was hampered by the weird-rear end engine position. I think the A10 and BT56 wouldn't have had that much of a problem though.

I like 8W Forix. The F1 Rejects forums are also good for weird/bad cars.

If you're technically inclined HGP had a really good website for engines a while back I can post when I get home. Somebody else had a link from a forum where a guy that rebuild older cars for rich fuckers explained alot of poo poo although I forget who posted that.

That'd be awesome. I am maybe the least technically inclined person on the planet when it comes to cars and racing, but even if I don't understand the details, I enjoy reading about that stuff. Even just getting a rough grasp on comparative differences and the discrepancies in strategy/goals is fascinating.

^^ Thanks!

i still miss have consistent backmarkers as respectable as minardi. minardi never felt like they were innately poo poo like hrt/caterham/marussia did, they just didn't have any money and competed as best they could under those constraints.

F1DriverQuidenBerg

Yeah none of those poo poo teams felt like they'd get any better if they had more cash. It certainly seemed like for a while Caterham had some cash thrown at it and they were still hot garbage.

It's because they were a midfield/lower-midfield team (See also: Larrousse) until everybody behind them vanished due to rising costs in the mid 90s. The last real privateer was Forti.

I'd be more inclined to support Toro Minardi if it wasn't run by an energy drinks empire.
