Ah. Sorry, didn't realize y'all were in Australia where of course the shrikes are a shitload bigger. In Florida, our shrikes are small, chirping balls of fluff that mostly go after bugs. I once saw one on a barbed wire fence with a vole or field mouse almost as big as the bird.

Yoshi has decided that he only likes corn and spinach. The latter is obviously unfortunate, because I guess you're only supposed to give budgies about a leaf a week at most, but he stares at the place where his spinach was and screams. He also half-eats the corn on top of his vegetable mix, tossing most of it on the floor, then stares the bowl like "take this mush away - I ordered corn."

Quick question which lenses are people using and what is their minimum focusing distance? [photography nerd] I have lenses across three different formats (four if you count the x100), sounds mad but I used to deal in second hand cameras so my gear is concentrated on expensive lenses mounted on ok bodies [/photography nerd] `

I usually can't get that close without the birb waddling away. My phone also seems to be able to focus quite close, so the birdface covers most of the sensor.

I have a sigma 70mm f/2.8 macro but the problem I have is that I want to set the camera up so that I am shooting though the cage door with them inside and I'm thinking 70mm is going to be too close. Unfortunately I can't check this right now as the Sony charger broke and that's where the macro lives, so until amazon turns up I'm without my 50mm f/1.8 as well.

I just use my Galaxy S6 camera and while I have to take multiple shots to try to get a good one , when they come out clear they're really pretty nice. Good enough for internet at least.
