Well you guys left her a hell of a mess to clean up by electing the Progressive Conservatives like fourteen times in a row. The fact you don't have any kind of fiscal cushion immediately after a massive oil boom is not really Notley's fault.

I was a DRO once and yeah, it doesn't really do anything. We just see that it's spoiled and put in a baggie and not count it, that's it. Also, someone wrote "butts" to mark their ballot and we decided to accept it as a valid vote because it was fully in the circle so make sure you're actually spoiling your ballot when you want to spoil your ballot.

Had a friend that contacted elections Canada specifically for instructions on spoiling a ballot (he lives in Manitoba). Apparently they are supposed to keep track of spoiled ballots but only count them if the voter writes “declined” the on the ballot. Not sure if that info actually makes it to the elections officers but he is the type that will follow up if his polling station results do not reflect any declined/spoiled ballots. Edit: I guess not only counts. That is the official way to spoil the ballot

Manitoba is the only province to have an "official" way to spoil a ballot and actually count them.

Maybe it's time for an officially tracked "none of the above" option that's distinct from spoiled ballots.

It will take time for industry to react and for prices to come down.

A year ago on voting day in Alberta, I happened to be on my days off and was partying far too much to vote in the provincial elections. I would have likely cast my ballot for the PCs, however, when the NDP won, I hesitantly decided to wait prior to assuming what the outcome would be for the province. After yesterday's budget announcement though, and the colossal debt Alberta will rack up under the NDP I can no longer hold back my opinion: Notley is destroying Alberta. Do we really need a carbon tax in this economic downturn? Only the top 40% of Albertans will pay the entire tax. Are we not supposed to be in the fight against climate change "together"? Why are government workers not having their buoyant salaries cut or frozen? In the private sector for example we have all faced major reductions in income in order to cope with the times. Is spending on bike lanes seriously necessary at this point? Do we really have to phase out coal power - killing thousands of private sector jobs, and increasing our hydro bills? Even simple vices are being punished - alcohol prices have gone up, and a carton of smokes costs $10 more than last year - all due to the NDP's tax hikes. Alberta spends more on healthcare and education per capita than Ontario, Quebec, and BC - unbelievable. I believe we ought to have quality public service but does the cost need to be this high? For example - and I know this is municipal not provincial but - the Mayor of Edmonton earns more than the premier of Canada's most populous province. That is just one little example highlighting Alberta's spending problem. Why is the NDP investing in unproven "Green Energy" schemes in a time of crisis? The only laudable spending they are doing is on infrastructure - everywhere else though, they need to cut, in order to secure a debt free future for Alberta. A little bit of deficit financing is okay if it is spent on the right programs - drowning us in debt however is not. I could go on and on but you get the gist of it. God save Alberta!

Between the Carp Fair business and the trouble over his using phoney pictures on his website of constituents supposedly praising him, he’s had a bad week. In Toronto, although MacLaren’s leader Patrick Brown has allowed him to stay in the Tory caucus and keep his place as natural resources critic, Wynne denounced MacLaren as a misogynist who contributes to a culture of aggression against women. There is even a recording of it too

The first competition will launch in late 2016 with the first projects potentially in service by 2019." Like, it's not immediate, but that's lifted verbatim from the budget. Also: "Green Infrastructure: Support will be provided to municipalities for public transit and other green infrastructure. Green build programs will be integrated into the planning for government-owned assets. The $5 million budgeted in 2016-17 is for project planning. Innovation and Technology: In partnership with other governments and industry, funding will support transformative research, innovation and technology focused on Alberta’s climate change objectives."
