Almost any controversial discussion very quickly devolves into a debate about whether the right to x trumps the right to y. I'm not sure what's interesting about this, as it seems self-evident. For there to even be a discussion in the first place there needs to be a party that benefits and a party that is harmed or feel that they are harmed. Because there are distinct groups with beliefs as extreme as a) thinking that they should be able to do basically anything they want b) thinking that they have a right to not be offended you quickly arrive at 'two competing claims about whose rights are being violated the most'.

The argument against weed smoke in multifamily buildings generally doesn't come down to actual inhalation of any smoke, it's about the icky weed smell. Which is fine, except I don't like the smell of Indian food or Lush body products or any number of things and you don't see me petitioning to ban the sale of coriander and bath bombs. Turns out, when you live in a city, you smell other people's business. If you don't like it, move to a shack in Manitoba.

I just received my first package of medical marijuana shatter and I'm using a pen vape for it. I plan on getting another for weed proper. Considering how cheap good ones are now there really isn't a reason to be smoking anything anymore.

Seriously if you are buying shatter, be sure you know what you're getting. I only consume shatter from extractors whose techniques I know first hand, because

Andrew MacDougall, noted Conservative shill, had a realllll interesting editorial in the Citizen today. He starts with his normal socialism bit, but then he says that given the radical anti-establishment movement that is shaking up western politics, the conservative government might want to look into radical policy moves of its own. The intended goal is to "slim the state and make us more mobile and competitive". Pretty standard stuff so far for a conservative editorial. Except these are the suggestions: quote:What would a Conservative leap look like? Well if, like me, you accept that globalization isn’t a fad and that a mobile workforce supported by a nimble state is a must, the cocktail napkin version of a “mobility” manifesto could look something like the following. http://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/macdougall-tories-learn-from-the-mulcair-example

I go outside when I feel like burning one because I too am a human being with a nose who doesn't want to live in an ashtray either. What I object to are hysterical goony goons who apparently have the olfactory capabilities of pure blood basset hounds, who talk about the notion that one microscopic speck of smoke could drift up three floors and infiltrate their sweaty lungs like they're being sent to Chernobyl in a g-string. Forgive me if it's been cleared up already as this thread can be hard to keep up with at times. Recently the NL government revealed some austerity measures in its 2016 budget and now my Facebook feed is flooded with posts about how it's the end of days and everyone's children won't have an education and will end up on the streets. Can anyone with even a lick of economics education clarify what exactly the NL budget will mean for citizens of the province and perhaps confirm/deny if it is actually That Bad? Or at least point me to a decent breakdown?

It is bad and features regressive tax increases. On the other hand if the province had saved money ahead of time from their glut of oil wealth then they might have been able to mitigate this. Essentially Newfoundland is experiencing a sudden reversion from being Alberta East to being just another depressed Maritime economy, and people are mad about it.

It's pretty loving bad, and it's only going to accelerate the emigration of youth and working age folks which will exacerbate the problem further down the road. But, as a Newfoundland, Vyelkin's absolutely right. I have precisely 0 pity for any petro-province/state that sells its non-renewable resources for pennies on the dollar then blows the wealth on loving tax breaks. Even less sympathy for the rigpigs with giant jacked up trucks and $300k McMansions in rural buttfuck nowhere.
