So basically this guy is a developer for another (game)company based in the UK, and he seems to imply that in the past they had a lot of CIG employees knocking on their doors for a job?

But at this point they don't even reach the interview anymore because the experience they got over CIG is probably worth poo poo?

Hmm, I was pretty sure if you go were to go back and read whichever thread corresponds to that time, you'd find the posts where goons took credit for the post, though I wouldn't put it past Ben to have done a similar ban on a seperate occasion. This happened years ago, so I guess I'm remembering incorrectly.

Get in touch with this guy's friend, to establish this isn't just Ben being a shitheel 'once upon a time as a teen in high school', but to establish the pattern that he was this when he was in his mid-late twenties working at a school as an EMPLOYEE, that CIG saw nothing wrong with this kind of behavior for their community manager and that it ties into every single complaint people have had, since he started leading CIG's community team from the get go.

Now checking in again with my friend, turns out Ben really was a horrid person. He brings up this story.

The community once had a member called Eagle-1 (who was African American). Eagle apparently was the one who setup the IRC channels in 1996 and began the WC community well before WC news.
From what I can gather Eagle was a very well respected and kind community member. Being an older member (he was 58) many mentioned that he was a mentor to them dishing out advice to life's problems and encouraging awkward nerds to give it a go. He even rang up Ben to offer kind words before his eye surgery.

So what does Ben do? Gets annoyed that, unlike Eagle, he wasn't being seen as some sort of leader despite his knowledge of WC. Ben also hated that Eagle ran a competing IRC channel where you couldn't swear and things were kept in order and people felt safe. Basically Ben muscled him out and fostered that toxic community we now all love and quote.

But as my friend points out, Ben's distrust was allegedly racially motivated - he could not stand that at the end of the day the guy who everyone loves happens to be black.

Sadly Eagle died in 2007 from a heart attack. Despite the terse obituary on the website over on IRC Ben lapped up his demise, ripping into a beloved community member because of his own selfish reasons.

This isn't some angry kid, but some man who's wrapped himself up in a bubble of ignorance and tried to blame his life situation as a cause.

Moma, I'm generally against poo poo raking through obscure things in people's pasts for dirt, particularly their youths, but to have it in this volume? To this degree of hatefulness? This late in life? And importantly he's left it up for years and checked in on it periodically. I don't feel bringing it up is invalid.

Yeah we've all said weird awful poo poo at some point but when i feel shame and guilt over my past deeds I don't leave them up, particularly not a loving hate archive.

I forget who said it (maybe it was EightAce) but it seems that you're tainted if you worked on a failed project -- either you didn't have the initiative to leave earlier, or else you're part of the problem. Presumably this is why the rats still aboard the sinking ship are having trouble finding somewhere to jump to.

Also, it's possible that Sandi was the reason J How wasn't hired to fix their problems with the Persistent Universe. :laffo:

Even worse are the whales, who despite their flaws managed to make an earning and now try to buy social prestige by "investing" into this circus freak show of a Space Sim. DickWulf, Seraph and weesha - nobody would argue they are well-rounded personalities.

As long as we poke fun at them in this thread: That's fine. But reaching out to destroy their livelihood - like siccening SJWs on a obviously unhealthy Ben - is to my mind callous if not sadistic and will not help them to find some solace late in their life.

For what it's worth I think that alerting others to his activities is far more defensible than making fun of his quotes online, it's beyond "destroying his livelihood" or w/e.
