Perhaps its a case of a lovely name sounding good to me because it is an established title and an equally bad title sounds bad because its not a real title. If that makes an ounce of sense.

In a weird way that theory kinda explains why grizzled old hermit Luke has that, "gently caress you dad" look on his face when Rey's trying to hand him the lightsaber.

JJ confirms that Rey's parents were not in TFA.

Hopefully that doesn't allow for a loophole of "well, Luke is her dad but her mom is new, so yes her parentS weren't in tfa"

Absolutely. JJ Abrams talking about the same universe that gave us the "certain point of view" copout. We're never going to get a concrete, official answer as to Rey's parentage until Ep VIII, barring some crazy leak ala Hateful 8.

"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII," Abrams said to the audience. "So I can't possibly at this moment tell you who they are."

I mean it would help with the whole 'You must be related to Luke or you can't play with the force' thing. It wouldn't be bad. As long as they weren't stupid enough to go with a love redeems thing with Kylo Ren.

That leaked script is totally wrong (there are way too many things already absent/contradicted by other stuff) but feels plausible in broad strokes given how predictable movies like these are nowadays. I think its safe to say there'll be some sort of redemption plot for Ren, so expect that, for example.

Maybe not redemption (at least in this movie), but I could definitely see him going off on his own.

Basically Kylo Ren is the broad strokes of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
