OK this is getting spooky now, why is history repeating itself but skipping tragedy and going directly to farce?

Trapezium Dave posted:I've got to admit, I've got no clue who is going to win an election held in the next few months. My gut feeling is it's going to come down to whichever side does the least unbelievably political boneheaded moves in the campaign, so it's anyone's game. It's Turnbull's to lose, honestly. He's got it if he plays conservatively, gives a 'no surprises' budget with just enough carrot and not enough stick, and doesn't have anything godawful happen to him, but if any of that happens he's in trouble. It's similarly vaguely possible for Labor to win with some really good ads and policy platforms, but they're far less likely to pull good surprises than Turnbull's party is to pull bad ones.

So some young Liberal MP was on Hack (on Triple J) this afternoon. Tom asked him what to look forward to at the budget and he said something like "Government has to live within it's means and we have to cut tax for business to stimulate jobs" It's going to be a corker.

September? so he backs down, he looks like a coward, and he gets slammed at the ballot box. But if he plays his cards right, he stabilises the government that's bleeding all over the place and has a chance to gain another term and possibly molify the right (Spoiler alert: he won't molify poo poo and they'll continue to crucify him for not being Tony Abbott) I reckon the next month is going to be incredibly interesting, and news ltd is going to unleash with both cannons as of tommorow I reckon

The bizarre thing is, if people understand what the ABCC actually is, it would kill the LNP as an election issue. So expect it to be totally buried under complete bullshit. ABC24's Sabra Lane totally misrepresented the Senate reform bills just then. So expect also the media to be "surprised" that there are more, not less independent Senators after July 2.

I reckon Turnbull will call a DD, he said as recently as yesterday that he would. I guess we can pretty much expect a softball budget with some random sweeteners in it in May.
