ok so I dont care if it has some concessions to modern gameplay, because quite honestly if I wanted to play an old school doom I could play...doom. Does it at least get the atmosphere of Doom down, or is this beta MP only?

Yeah the current system for library sorting loving fucks. I had "organized" my games by genre long ago, then quit so everything else was just chilling in the main list. I wanted to play a game I KNEW I had but couldn't find it because it was in some loving genre list that wasn't even the right one (I was real bad at organizing). To remove them from their lists I had to select each one and uncheck all categories. It was super poo poo and I hated it.

Yeah I watched that on Youtube. You can beat the game by just staying in the room you were eating in at the beginning when your uncle says "Stay right here, I'll be back."

Played doom and while it's not bad it's not really gonna push the fps envelope either. I don't dislike the idea of loadouts but an arena shooter where you're not fighting to dominate weapons spawns seems like it's trying to make it easier to approach while missing the point of an arena shooter in the first place.

I mean it's doom without carmack.

The guys who made the Borderlands series has a new game coming out in a couple weeks called Battleborn. It is an FPS kind of like Borderlands with some kind of MOBA style versus modes. They had an open beta that just ended today, but I managed to catch the tail end of it and play over the weekend. My impression was that it was really fun, well balanced, and had a good selection of characters with their own unique play styles.

For the beta they had two story missions which were solo or coop Borderlands style missions and two pvp maps.

The PVP maps they had were both 5v5 maps with a 30 minute time limit and each team has waves of minions that spawn like in a MOBA. The first map you are fighting to destroy two large enemy robots (tower equivalent) in a single lane while defending your own robots. The other map you are trying to lead your minions down two lanes to points within enemy territory until you get so many to the point. The battles tended to be fast paced and probably lasted on average 15 minutes.

I was a bit skeptical going in since I'm not a big MOBA fan and a friend of mine had told me that he didn't think the game was fun and that it was really unbalanced. It turned out that he was just really bad at the game.

Overall I enjoyed it and ended up preordering it (GMG has a 25% discount for it and Amazon Prime has a 20% atm) and it releases in about two weeks. If I had known the beta was ending so quickly I would have posted in here sooner, so sorry about the late notice.

TBH it feels like a really stripped down version of Team Fortress, where you can customize your load out and there's no real movement tricks. The Unreal Tournament alpha is much better imho

It's not complete trash but it very much feels like The Standard Obligatory Multiplayer Mode that used to be way more of a thing with console-focused FPS games. What worries me is that they're pushing the multiplayer so hard in all the marketing instead of the singleplayer.
