History Buffs took a look at Lawrence of Arabia with a cameo by Indy Neidell from The Great War, which is a great channel if you're into history You can say internet reviews are a dying breed, but History Buffs shows how research, dedication, and a lot of luck can combine into a thriving show. I mean, he went from doing it for fun to near 100K subscribers and got to interview The Vikings cast and crew. Probably more an exception than a rule as ever, but it's still possible. Something I found creepy and off-putting was the V for Vendetta video when they take off five Sins for Natalie Portman in a dress... a dress like a little girl would wear, while she was also acting like a little girl, to lure in a pedophile priest so V could kill him. How loving oblivious can a person be?

I feel a little bit bad for CinemaSins, though. Tony Goldmark asked them on Twitter if he was the only person in the reviewing community who actually likes CinemaSins and they responded "yeah, I think so." They've got millions of views on their most popular videos. Over 5 million subscribers. But they don't have the respect of their peers. All the people that they want to like them don't just think they're bad, but think make things worse. The best thing their own fans say in their defence is that CinemaSins is just pointless garbage not worth caring about. How hosed up is that? Edit: For some actual content, Foldable Human has been at some local film fest all week and reviewed a couple horror films that he saw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dxs2OMy5zHo - Under the Shadow which sounds pretty good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI_p-0-yNKo - The Lure which sounds really hosed up. I really like History Buffs' videos, he goes far further into the historical detail than I do in my videos. I reviewed Lawrence of Arabia last year at the request of a patreon subscriber and I did bring up some background information, but nothing this thorough, as I was approaching it from a queer perspective - so it's really cool to hear further details about the inaccuracies and the history. Different reviewers have different perspectives, starting from the fact that History Buffs enjoyed this film a lot more than I did. It's a pretty film and really well made, but it's...oh god it's so long, it's just so long.

WRT Youtube reccomending terrible things, on the home page, if you hover over the offending video, a little triple box will appear. Click that, select the "Not Interested" thing- bam, video no longer recommended. Then click the "Tell Us Why" link that'll appear to tell YT that you don't want anything else from that channel. Also there are various addons for Firefox and Chrome to block videos and channels from appearing, but so far using the youtube method has been effective enough. LFK posted:I feel a little bit bad for CinemaSins, though. I'd feel worse if it weren't clear dude doesn't want to listen to criticism or do basic research. Another thing with crunch - it's actively, utterly counterproductive when you're in a technical field. Pretty much all my Comp Sci professors made an anthem of imploring us to start our assignments early explicitly because when you sit down and try to hammer out a serious bit of code in a single go, there inevitably comes a point a few hours in where you hit huge diminishing returns when you're just sitting there hammering on the same program and won't recover until you walk away for a bit and refresh. I don't think I ever had a serious assignment go well that I didn't finish a good day or two early. When it comes to coding, good planning and good scoping trumps pure effort every single time.

Hey poparena, I finally came around to watching your last Animorphs review today and I wanted to say, great job! Not just on the three parter, but on your review series in general. You struck a great balance between analyzing the books stories and their themes (and jokes), without neglecting either too much. Which is harder than it sounds, since a lot of "nerd" reviews tend to favor the story a lot more, almost sneering at the idea that any kind of message or deeper meaning could be present in the text at all. So, I really appreciated that it was present in your reviews. I also have to be honest and say that a lot of the enjoyment probably came from me mostly agreeing with you an many points when it comes to the strength and flaws of the series, e.g. Cassie being kind of a terrible(ly written) character, Jake committing a war crime, a lot of interesting things being introduced, only to be underutilized later. I also agree that the morphing, while the initial draw, was never really what was truly remarkable about the series. Honestly, it became a little silly with time that a Space Empire with access to laser beams regularly lost fights with animals. Or that they never figured out that they were probably humans. And I have a feeling that some authors at least caught on with time, since the focus really changed away from direct confrontation, more to covert ops. A lot of the earlier books have the But eventually, it always comes down to characters and Animorphs definitely had some great ones, if only because they didn't assign themselves to stereotypes. Honestly, the series biggest strength in that regard is probably that different books had different narrators, as it allowed the reader to see each characters persona view on the events. It also gave all of them the chace to shine, which I think is important, given that the majority of stories feature one main protagonist who gets to do all the cool stuff. But in Animorphs, even Jake, despite being the "leader", isn't really more important or competent than the others (Arguably, i would say less so). One point I want to mention though, since I can't remember if you brought it up, but I always thought that Yeerks really ended up being pretty multilayered villains for a young adult series. I generally think that most of the aliens Applegate created for the series were kinda bland, especially the Andalits. But the Yeerks were developed to such a degree over the run of the series that a lot of the things that got introduced earlier on seriously clash with the way they are presented later, i.e. Visser 3 being in charge of anything. Anyway, all in all, I really enjoyed your looking back and I always looked forward to your videos. All the best for your future projects!
