It's an issue with sponsors and young driver programs not supporting women at a karting level at the age of 12 or so when it becomes important, so they end up giving up or switching to sports like motocross which are far more likely to give them sponsorship deals. F1 can only recruit from lower formulas and if women are locked out of them financially then it's not F1's fault. A big issue for me is that if it's well known that women can't get motorsport sponsorship deals then why are huge brands selling women's products who claim to be all about feminism and addressing the gap and so on not helping them either? To give an example of just how much money there is in the cosmetics and fragrance industry, Elizabeth Arden make five billion pounds a year in profit off of Britney Spears perfumes alone. Take a small fraction of just that money and there's your young women's driver program right there, and Elizabeth Arden get to be known as the people who brought women into Formula 1.

Fair enough, let's take a look at Beitske's entire racing history: Her best is 8th. Let's get something straight here, I'm not saying that women can't/will never be good enough to race in F1, all I'm saying is that none of the current hopeful's look fast enough right now. Having said that, I think if Alice Powell can get her sponsorship troubles sorted out I bet she would tear up GP3 or GP2. Beitske Visser is currently in the Red Bull driver program, so we'll see how that pans out for her. MustardFacial fucked around with this message at 20:22 on Apr 20, 2016 |

I was taking issue with you citing Alice Powell's 31st place in the 2013 GP3 series when she only drove 2 races. And everyone knows the new hotness is Sophia Floersch.

FYI is the equipment is second-rate in racing your career is basically hosed.

Second rate equipment is not an issue in spec series.

Even if the equipment is exactly the same your team of engineers, strategists and mechanics are the ones that make a difference.

But while I can't speak for Beitske, I know for a fact Alice has inspired young women to at least get into national karting championships. And given that anyone worth listening to really just thinks it's a numbers game then that's good enough.

Keke is actually one of my favorite drivers from the early 80s and I think he gets a poo poo rap because he only won one race for his championship. I'm willing to support Nico on the basis that it's a win for Keke.

That may be what they say they pay tax on in the US, but the Wiki also says they are new York based when they are most certainly not. The factory and actual headquarters are in Cape town South Africa and they pay tax there. Coty sell the same amount of fragrances as EA and their US figures on wiki are dramatically different https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coty,_Inc.

I have a bad feeling about Russia. You know that thing when you are really into a television show and the first few in the new series are the best thing ever, so you tell your friend to come watch it with you and that episode turns out to be rubbish, so you end up awkwardly sat there going "no no it's usually much better than this really!"

Someone just pissed off Sky/Channel 4/his own team boss. I'll give you three guesses but you will only need one: "I don't want to be a commentator or stay and be in the sport, it is just not for me, it has been my opinion for a long time. I feel like there is a lot of people who are still in the sport, they just can't let go, I'm like 'let go already'.
