PSP/V are Persona remake/spinoff machines (plus Devil Summoner 1), everything else has been on 3/DS for the last two gens, I think.

I have to wonder, how much did slapping the SMT label/title on most Atlus games help with building their franchises in the west? It must have at least helped create some recognizability.

The SMT title if anything at least gives a unified to refer to the games as that isn't "Atlus games" because then we'd be talking about Etrian Oddyssey as well. A lot of these games contain similar themes and aesthetics though and Persons fits right along with them even if some of the later Persona games are less downtrodden than most other SMT games. Hell, you can loving call Catherine an SMT game, bar the use of demons it is one in all respects and better than most.

Wont lie, I totally forgot about Devil Survivor 1&2. Mostly because they were bad games. Also if you want to be really pedantic: Nine, Giten Megami Tensei, IMAGINE, Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, Devil Children, and Last Bible all had the Megami Tensei name in there somewhere. And a bunch of Japan-only cell phone games. As spinoffs go really it's only the Persona, Majin Tensei, DDS, Devil Survivor, and PS2 Devil Summoner games to not have the Megami Tensei name in them anywhere. Except of course the NA versions where they slap the SMT name on everything regardless.

I couldn't stand Persona 3 when I first played it. It was so 2000's: Welcome, random high school student, to our secret club where we fight monsters by shooting ourselves. Of course, since I've played it I appreciated the differences in tone from Persona 4. Persona 5 is looking to be just as radical a change and I'm excited.

The game itself is pretty fun but a lot of people, me included, found the controls a little finicky. It's frustrating to die because you meant to move in one direction and ended up moving in another.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. At first appearance its really edgy just for the sake it but after a while you get into the world and everything just clicks together so nicely
