Having now been to a few gener-neutral bathrooms I have no issue with them and can't see why people would; I guess if people like leaving the door open when they're in a stall it might be weird but if that's the case there's a whole bunch of other weirdness to look at first...

The Greens want to legislate to give casuals and employees on successive fixed-term contracts who have been in a workplace for more than 12 months a right to request secure and ongoing work.

Employees whose request for permanent work is refused would be able to ask the Fair Work Commission to order their employer to give them a permanent full-time or part-time job.

The Greens’ policy would also allow unions and employer organisations to apply to the commission for orders that prospective employees, casual employees or those on rolling contracts be given permanent work.

60 Minutes: Malcolm Turnbull says corporate watchdog might investigate Channel Nine's actions By political reporter Stephanie Anderson, staff Updated 18 minutes ago

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says the corporate watchdog might be interested in Channel Nine's efforts to release its crew from a prison in Beirut.

Key points:

Questions raised whether Channel Nine paid for release of 60 Minutes crew
Turnbull said broadcaster's actions would be of interest to regulatory agencies
Lebanon court provided with document purporting payment of $70,000 from Channel Nine to child recovery firm
The 60 minutes crew involved in a botched attempt to remove two children in Beirut two weeks ago has arrived back in Australia.

Questions are now being raised about whether the broadcaster paid for the release of journalist Tara Brown and her crew, after being arrested earlier this month. Mr Turnbull has told Sydney radio station 2SM that the actions of the crew "appears to have been most unwise". "It doesn't matter who you are or who you work for, when you are overseas — if you're an Australian — you must obey the laws of the country in which you were visiting," he said. "Nobody is above the law." Mr Turnbull said that their actions "would be of interest to various regulatory agencies".

Mr Turnbull's comments come as the lawyer for the head of the child recovery firm still in Lebanon, and facing charges of child abduction at a court in Beirut, has provided the court with a document purporting a payment of almost $70,000 from TCN Channel Nine to the firm. In a separate development, 7.30 has confirmed controversial former NSW politician Eddie Obeid was approached by a friend of his at Channel Nine, and made a number of calls to senior Lebanese politicians in relation to the case. Nine has issued an emphatic denial that it approached Mr Obeid directly or indirectly, saying the allegation is completely false.

Sally Faulkner, the mother of the children involved in the botched abduction, spent her final visit with her two children at a suburban McDonalds in Beirut. Her estranged husband Ali Elamine said they had ice cream, that she hugged the children a lot, and that afterwards, she was in tears. Ms Faulkner is now free to leave Beirut and go back to Australia.
Oh the emphatic hand wringing. Nine should have their license reviewed at the very least. Watch nothing happen.

If there needed to be seperation I think that would be a better basis than gender. Obviously you'd still need parents in there in a lot of cases though.

There have been very few problems.’ North Carolina, what they are going through with all of the business that’s leaving and the strife– and that’s on both sides. You leave it the way it is. There have been very few complaints they way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble, and the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic punishment they’re taking."

Toilet-chat: Why not have individual/completely closed off and concealed toilets that any gender can use? Won't that please everybody?

Bike-chat: Cyclists and motorists (and sometimes even pedestrians) can all be arseholes to each other. The real solution is for everybody to stop being wankers. Bike lanes are only good if people use them btw.

Uber-chat: I have gotten a much better service from Uber than I ever have from a normal taxi. That said, that doesn't mean anybody should ignore their lovely business practices. Perhaps the competition will force taxi companies to lift their game and we'll end up with a better taxi industry after everything settles.

60minutes-chat: A lot of people I've spoken to about this have reacted from mild disinterest to "isn't the father the REAL kidnapper?". I can only imagine the reaction if a Lebanese news crew funded a child kidnapping in Australia, it wouldn't take long for it to be labelled terrorism. Do we know much about the background to this case? Did the mother ever try and get custody legally before hiring international child abductors?

Yes, the history is quite well known as far as I can tell - but nobody is interested in knowing it, they just want to put their opinion in the comments.

The problem is cars use bike lanes more than bikes do. Driver culture in Brisbane especially is that bikes are not legitimate vehicles and for wankers therefore get off the road maaaaate.

Same issue in Perth.

I guess my point was that, in my experience, as someone who drives, cycles and walks, everyone breaks traffic laws frequently. Having 1 bike block a single lane of traffic because they don't want to use bike paths/lanes is a legitimate problem and so are the 5 motorists who shout at him and almost run him over trying to get around him. Everyone should just take a chill pill and be courteous to each other.

We recently had a public safety campaign about bikes with the slogan "If you don't see him/neither will his family" which is good, but I don't think it addresses the problem. Just run ads that instruct people on the law and what they should be doing to avoid hitting each other (i.e. "Turning vehicles MUST give way to pedestrians", "Don't cross double white lines", "Give cyclists lots of room when you overtake them" etc.)

Yeah, motorists will drive really close to cyclists either deliberately because they're arseholes or accidentally because they have no peripheral vision. One of the reasons why I don't really cycle is because I'm in no mood to be killed by some hick in a ute with a Bundaberg Rum bumper sticker. Actually, I know someone who wears a leather glove and punches off people's side mirrors when they do that. Probably costs them $100 and they're unlikely to do it again but I'm nowhere near that confrontational personally

I don't think this is right. Someone who accidentally drives too close to a cyclist because they were in his blind spot, gets his mirror punched off is likely to just start growing a "gently caress cyclists" attitude. And even if they're more conscious of cyclists in the future, they're more likely to deliberately drive aggressively because of that one time a wanker broke off his mirror.
