For a moment there, when Barry was berating Archer for taking his mother for granted, I thought it might turn out that Mallory was his mother.

I'd ask if the story behind "Edisoning an elephant" is real, but Archer is very good at these kinds of references. Also, Edison was a dick.

It's real (or at least close to real), Bob's Burgers did an episode about it. Y-Hat posted:I'd ask if the story behind "Edisoning an elephant" is real, but Archer is very good at these kinds of references. Also, Edison was a dick. Totally real. I explained it to my wife, actually. Basically, Edison wanted to wire the world up with direct current, which can only travel a mile from the power plant. Small towns might get by with one plant, but big cities may well need hundreds. Westinghouse wanted to use the system in use in Europe, which was AC. AC could be sent over many miles of cable relatively cheaply because the voltage could be stepped up for transmission and stepped down for the consumer. To prove that this AC was indeed the DEVIL'S CURRENT, Edison bought an elephant and electrocuted it to death using AC. Since even this this was 'MURICA!!, people looked at the spectacle and thought, "OK, so AC works great, both as a power source for light bulbs AND as a handy method of execution!" And thus the AC standard and the electric chair were born. Or so the legend goes. tarlibone fucked around with this message at 04:29 on Apr 22, 2016 |

As has been said, Edison had a hand in the electric chair using AC due to the War Of The Currents, but Topsy was killed a decade after Edison got out of the electrical business. People just confuse the two because A) Edison's film company filmed the execution and B) its something Edison would have done had someone wanted to electrocute an elephant during the War O' Currents.

I like any allusion we get to Mallory's abilities as a former spy. The Poor Man's Frank Langella. Great reference. Frank Langella is Gabriel in The Americans. Problematic Pigeon posted:Archer is to blame for this. "To be fair, most of the things involving me could be attributed to this."

JD posted:Then she twirls her hair He's fun but there's something about his character (his apparent indestructibility?) that's faintly annoying and does seem to put most people off. Archer without the charisma is just too much to take, I'm guessing? I loved this episode and all episodes that remind us that Mallory's entire existence on the show is essentially her lazy retirement after an exceedingly mysterious career of badassery.

Replace Archer's snarky wit with rage and vengeance and you have Barry. I think he's good in small doses. Barry sounded like an angry Carl from Aqua Teen a few times in this episode, which makes sense since they're both voiced by the same guy.Hollismason posted:It's even funnier when you know the first law of robotics get that OUT of my face fucked around with this message at 23:54 on Apr 23, 2016 |

Most of the first two seasons revolved around Mallory setting up missions to serve her own greed. So she does gently caress up as bad as Archer, but the motivation is different.
