"Foie gras" isn't pronounced anything like "coup de grâce." Neither is gravy, but at least that one isn't a mistake that people make regularly.

the actual animation varied a ton but hand painted backgrounds and photography went a long way to making that stuff look timeless

Yeah!

There's a very human element to it that takes a little effort to replicate these days

photography also gave it a bit of depth because there quite physically was depth in how they layered the background and foreground elements in the composition machine

it was subtle in the end product but its definitely there

its obvious why they moved on from that method but i still like the way it looks

No joke, if done well, a lot of hand drawn animation looks better than computer cell shading and such done nowadays.

Maybe it's just a weird aesthetic, but I always liked how the first season of Pokémon looked compared to later seasons.

The remastered bluray is gorgeous.

Some of the animation tricks used in it were specialised techniques that were thought lost when the animation director died, then his widow found some manuscripts detailing them in the attic.

Yes, and because one ends in -s (which is silent at the end of a word in French) and one ends in -ce (which isn't). It's "fwa grah" and "coo duh grass."
