So I don't have much invested in SC, but ever since I noticed that Derek Smart got his own subforum, I had to keep up with the drama. What I've learned so far reading the thread, is that Elite Dangerous looks pretty drat cool. Anyone have any trip reports on it?

The discord's been giving me some good pointers, and I'm very slowly making my way to some of the sights I want to see now in the inhabited 'bubble'. I've learned that I like rings, interdiction happens and is annoying and that the Diamondback Explorer's a pretty decent little ride.     Mitterand Hollow's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance, because it's amazing. I'll dump my little detour there in spoilers because you really need to see it for yourself. Not pictured, 4 attempts just to get close to this place. I eventually gave up and just parked myself in the moon's path.

trip reports? you mean expedition logs? Loads plus you can track your own adventures using this http://www.edsm.net/ using this and http://eddiscovery.astronet.se/ - this monitors those systems and links up the logs to the above website along with your own notes etc. and http://edcodex.info/?m=tools&entry=150 - this monitors the system you jump into (if you want a better explanation or help setting up just pm me)

I can't find it anywhere but I am positive 2-3 years ago images were circulating of CIG planning out star citizens economy. People were mocking it at the time because they were excitedly and elaborately planning out this poo poo when they still hadn't released the game. Someone didn't believe that actually happened and said it was Star Traders. Am I going crazy? It was a bunch of CIG employees having these elaborate meetings with a big board and "planning the economy."

And thats the reason i love and hate the game. Although, i do have to admit, learning to take off was pretty drat fun without a tutorial or looking at the keymaps. Crashed and burned like a dozen times. I did load it up for about 1 minute a couple weeks ago. My ship, when i quit, was docked on some station. Now its free floating in space with no station nearby. I couldnt figure out how to get to any nearby stations that were on the map so i quit again. But that games looks. They are the things of Dreams. E:D's ship and sound designs are incredible. Those Capship entrences just scream "Something is gonna gently caress you up!" as it rips out of a space anus.

Also, doing that over and over again becomes boring pretty fast. But at the moment, all the game is is a bunch of tutorials, showcasing the sim and making you manually doing a shitload of things that won't have to be (all) done manually ever again. So it's not quite a Checklist: The Game it appears to be. It is, however, first and foremost a sim. Complaining about the way it does things makes about as much sense as complaining about A-10 not giving you instant multiplayer pewpew in third person. Precisely like you've said - to each their own. And even then - depending on current mood.
