Poise doesn't do anything, so heavy armor isn't necessarily the best way to go. It reduces damage, but the difference between medium armor and heavy armor isn't going to be noticeable to the average player. Wear whatever allows you to stay under 70% equip load (or 30%, if you want to go for a fast-roll build).

On the other hand, shields are probably less useful in DS3 than they are in any other souls game. Enemies are fast, aggressive, and relentless with their combos. Taking them down as quickly as possible is the way to go; tanking them is going to eat all of your stamina and get your guard broken. In PvP, hold your shield up is going to get you kicked (or you guard broken with a standard combo), which will open you up to a visceral attack while you're staggered. I'd stick with the Knight shield for now, because you can parry with it. I've been playing with the grass crest shield on my back for the majority of the game, and I haven't missed having a shield in most cases.

Saw this after I posted so I'll 2x.

I was parrying a lot b/c my first souls game was blood borne but I kept getting F-ed for the trouble, so now I've been raising my shield with R1 like a parry's timing but it has a much more forgiving window. Usually, enemies bounce hard enough I can get a hit or two in. Or, when I see its a big swing I'll roll. But again not very far so maybe everyone will start swinging through me or hitting too fast in the future.

I tried a 2 hand claymore build but found it too cumbersome, even when I was connecting well it took longer to kill b/c I had to be very conservative versus sword and board where I can afford a miss more easily.

Because that mob respawns, and I am missing exactly one boneshard and I just rechecked everywhere and I didn't miss any so that's the only thing I can think of.

from what i can tell the damage difference seems to increase by that much roughly when you do for some reason but it's still only a 200~ damage boost with all that stuff

at endgame w/ all that poo poo, +10 sage's staff and the scholar's candlestick you pump out some really dumb damage though (1k+ per missile ayyy) but it retains the 200~ damage difference so somehow it ends up being lame anyways since you reduce your number of casts by like a fourth when using css over great heavy missile. it's a shame because i just wanna go ham with them but i can't cast more than 4 spears without running out mp at like 33-ish attunement while i can cast something along the lines of like 16 arrows on the same bar

i was using the dusk crown, the two sorcery boosting rings and the scholars candlestick. didnt bother to buff the staff or clutch ring because i have other stuff to ring slot.

Have the devs said anything about the whole Poise thing? It's a little crazy to me they would have included it as a stat (and even added a ring that increases it and does nothing else), and then intentionally turned it off. I guess it's possible that they tested the game with poise off and liked it better, but why keep the stat at all, if that's the case? Conventional poise would help balance PvP a bit.

CSS is a faster cast than GHSA but is still pretty easy to see coming so you pop homing soul mass and then walk away from the dude, start casting CSS and then target midcast to turn around and blow him up. Works surprisingly well!

Best CSS moment was when I was a purple and killed a red invader, the host and his sunbro with the same cast :getin:

In the Irithyll area just before Anor Londo, there's a ladder behind an illusion wall. And down that ladder is suffering in its purest form.

They patched the previous games to fix huge problems tons of times. Moonlight greatsword was the best weapon in DS2 because you could buff it with resin and it shot that laser super fast. They fixed those problems. Last giant used to one shot you, they made his stomp do a max of 80% of your health to be friendlier to new players and let them survive one whoopsie. Bloodborne had an item duplicating glitch that they patched out by taking the game servers down until they figured out what was up.

They're very responsive I don't know what you mean that nobody will ever fix a problem in the game?

Draw one with a bow and fight him next to the ladder. If you kill one and die to the next, the first one won't respawn.

The right one can be pulled with a bow without aggroing the other.

Really a bow/crossbow is pretty much essential in this game for pulling enemies from a distance. You don't even need to meet the stat requirements for them.

Try pulling the left one with the bow and hitting it in its mouth while it charges, that usually stuns it for a bit and you can take a few swings. They don't respawn so if you get one of them but die you'll only have to fight the other one next time around.

Summon someone like I did, or alternatively you can aggro just one of them as long as you shoot him with an arrow and never move past the initial little square you start in.

there's no good exploit. you can pull either one into the corner with the ladder and fight it there, and they don't respawn once you kill them. you basically have to fight one of them in that small space, kill it, and then you can fight the other one in the bigger room area.

as for beating those lizard dogs, i finally did it when i ignored trying to play defensive and just went as aggro as they do. dodge the first combo it launches at you and then hit it back, hopefully hard enough to stagger, and then hope your next full combo is enough to kill it. i used a nice 2H weapon, if you can add carthus fire weapon or greater magic weapon or a resin, even better.

edit: at that point in the game, they are definitely the hardest non-boss encounter. it's really a get gud moment because there's not much you can exploit to just bypass them without having to fight them straight up

Pharis hat/Mirrah Vest/Nameless Knight gloves + Leggings turns you into one of the three musketeers. If I wasn't doing a bow-run this file I would definitely use a rapier with it.

Invading High Wall at SL 15. Host wearing Drakeblood armor at the first bonfire after Firelink shrine? Seems legit.

In any event...i've discovered that 3v1 is much harder to manage at low levels than high levels. And, let's face it; if a guy is playing Cindered up he's not leaving a bonfire without his personal armed escort. better trolling opportunities later on in the game. In the end, that's probably a good thing.

there's a chance they had a friend help them mule the gear onto a new character, but either way, who cares? jump off a roof if it's that upsetting and invade someone else.

also low-level invading is pretty poo poo. imo invading before road of sacrifices is just an exercise in frustration.

The first time I got Siegward he destroyed Yhorm no prob because I didn't go for the Stormruler - Yhorm was trying to hit me and Sieg was fine. The second time I went for the Stormruler and he just murdered Siegward right away. I think the way to keep him alive is just to be bait.
