Austrofascism was basically a hyper-reactionary and deeply nationalist movement concerned with ultimately restoring Austria in its pre-1918 or even pre-1848 (when serfdom was abolished in Austria) state (at least on a cultural level the government even promoted a pre-1789 style). Notable elements of this movement were its corporatism inspired both by Catholic teaching of the time and Italian Fascism and its incorporation of the Catholic Church in governmental structures (hence "Clerical Fascism"). Hitler's National Socialism (which was pan-German in its core and promoted a unification of all "Germanic peoples" under its banner) didn't jibe well at all with this, and so it wasn't too surprising when the Dollfuß government banned the Austrian offshoot of the NSDAP in 1933. The Nazis even attempted a coup against the fascist regime in Vienna a year later, during which Dollfuß himself was killed. While his successor Schuschnigg was eventually forced into cooperating with the Reich (partly because pan-German ideas grew more popular in Austria as well after the economic boom in Germany and partly because Italy as the original protector of Austria against German expansionism slowly turned dependant on the Reich), Austria in the years 1933-1938 was seen by many German intellectuals, opposition members and Jews as a safe haven, even though it was objectively a lovely place to live. So when Hofer and his FPÖ buddies choose to wear the cornflower (which was chosen by the Austrian Nazis as their symbol after their party and flying the swastika were officially banned in 1933) to parliament, it basically means that they advocate the destruction of Austria and its assimilation into a National Socialist Greater Germany. I'm not sure if they actually *know* what the cornflower actually stands for or if they're just wearing it because of tradition (their party was founded by former Nazis and SS officers after all) and because it's pissing off their political opponents, though   Schuschnigg, Mussolini and Guyla Gömbös, prime minister of fascist Hungary 1932-36. Those three were the main representatives of the "other" European fascism in 1930s Europe, which wasn't necessarily opposed to Hitler, but certainly had its own ideas and goals.
