What happens when an asylum seeker case is rejected? Do they get sent back to their home country or is some sort of alternative offered? Seems like you'd likely be facing some harsh retribution at the very least if you were sent home. And Manus Island is being shut - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-27/png-pm-oneill-to-shut-manus-island-detention-centre/7364414

Endman posted:You've answered your own question, really. Perhaps returning to their country of origin means life imprisonment with real, actual torture. Yeah, this. You don't know what hell awaits him back home, just that it was evidently bad enough for him to take all the risks involved in fleeing it. And in fact, you bring up 'you can go home anytime and we'll pay for the trip', and I don't know if I've heard that before, but... is that actually true, do we know that's true? Do we have anything resembling proof that this is ever offered in earnest, and has been taken up?

Yeah without the hosing boom the budget would probably be proper hosed, but at least his government spending the extra cash on things like infrastructure, health and education. Half a billion on fighting domestic violence, which is very good and very need expenditure as well. Opposition leader was saying they should be spending it on tax cuts. lol.

btw we do pay for asylum seekers to go home Mr Gigauri says the IOM has been running its AVR programme on Manus Island since July 2013 when the detention centre re-opened, and is funded by the Australian government. He says it has assisted 450 people to return to their home countries by taking care of logistics, transit documentation and reintegration, which sometimes involves payment to help people resettle in their home country. Mr Giguari says the process of voluntary return is treated on a case-by-case basis, involves a number of interviews and in no way is coercion involved. http://www.radionz.co.nz/international/programmes/datelinepacific/audio/20166683/iom-denies-preying-on-manus-asylum-seekers
