Urgh, I got a full body cringe from this review. Not with the review itself but the subject matter isn't even an entertaining kind of shlock. You can have good shlock but Eiken is loving gross and revolves around tits. There isn't even any clever jokes or innuendo

You know as bad as Eiken was at the time, I'm pretty sure lots of anime made since then beat it without even trying. Hell even at the time I think Ikkitousen was way worse. Eiken was only two episodes, Ikkitousen had multiple seasons.

Some shows are certainly more blatant and have actual nudity. I think its the fact that Eiken never actually goes whole hog that disgusts me the most about it. Like keeping all the tits covered somehow makes it more acceptable.

I mean, I wasn't hoping for penis. But the movie made a promise dammit

The Porco Rosso one is especially obnoxious because "When pigs fly" is not exactly an expression that only the Japanese use or anything like that. Porco is also a self-proclaimed womaniser or a bit of a pig if you will.

edit: I get really annoyed when people just do not get Ghibli films. I understand stuff being us for interpretation but you should just not be able to get the "when pigs fly" thing.

If they did wouldn't it be like illegal because I could swear I heard in Sage's video they said they were all in Jr High. So at best 14.

That's really really hosed up. Yet some goons upon being linked Sage's review just didn't get why I might have more than your usual ARRRG ANIMEEEEEE irritation with this.

Oh god don't take it as me saying "Eiken should have been a hentai" or anything like that. I just mean it more broadly that it's the part of the industry they should be in instead. Same for some comic book artists. I'm pretty sure Eiken is, or was at some point, intended to be an over the top parody of bad high school fanservice anime. Hence the grotesquely oversized breasts, all the sexual imagery, and so on. I'm not sure if the people responsible were any good at it, though.

They most likely funded the game by scamming Andrew Hussie (the Homestuck guy) out of kickstarter money.

To go into more detail, if I remember right, Hussie was collaborating with them on the Homestuck game, but there was a sudden massive delay in development for no public reason and with no announcement, during which time the new Kings Quest came out. Later, one of the people involved in the game said on Tumblr that the developer had used the Kickstarter funds from the Homestuck game to fund the Kings Quest game instead, but the post was quickly deleted. And rather than denying it, Hussie just said not to talk about it, leading most to think that there was some kind of legal settlement with a nondisclosure clause behind the scenes.

I think there's always a place for dirty work anti-hero types. If the Punisher were a little less insane and ended up working for the government he'd be pretty Jack Bauer-esque.

I'm not saying you were. It's more my issues of WHY Eiken seems more hosed up than say that anime where the dude gets a corn cob up his butt in spite of technically showing less.

The whole age thing is just.... hosed in the head.

Some adult comic book characters being drawn skeevy all the time is just sad especially since this is the internet age and all. But at least they are adults so it's just eye rolling. Also kind of makes it hard to actually do anything sexy with them male or female when their usual attire seems like stripper outfits or fetish wear.

I think this is why anime gets ( rightfully ) poo poo on a lot more than western comics. It's almost always underaged characters being horribly sexualized and usually without any actual characterization or agency. Mostly just written and drawn to fit an appeal type on some near sex offender's ideal checklist. It's been there to some degree pretty much the second Dirty Uncle Go Nagai did some manga in the early 70s but it seems that's about ALL anime and manga wants to do now. Like it's not just hosed up fandoms doing whatever they do to ruin good things. The creators themselves do it from the outset.

Like yes looking back on Chris Claremont's X Men stuff there are many many eyebrow raising things. But the anime and manga go so far beyond and so loving blatant.

Maybe it's because I am older now and have always been a goody goody but.. It's hosed up and shouldn't be, ya know? :(
