"_________ is too good for this show" describes the majority of the cast doesn't it?

What? No. Paul Blackthorne and Neal McDonough are good. The rest of the cast, including Amell (who has one or two facial expressions that he repeats over and over), is pretty average.

Willa Holland and Emily Rickards are also pretty bad.

Bring Constantine back to destroy the idol but it takes Oliver's life force to do it. Then he takes lead of the show and it just turns into the second season of Constantine that we should have been given.

I generally like everyone on the cast; they at least seem to have enthusiasm and passion for their roles, even if their acting ability isn't exactly what I'd call award winning.

At the very least they don't seem dead inside like everyone on the 100.

Too be fair, being average this season would appear to clear the bar for being better than this show.

They killed the worst actor on The 100 so he could go be the worst actor on American Gods anyway, shortly after they killed the worst actor so she could go be actually not the worst on Fear the Walking Dead,

The fact they are playing Americans already makes them better actors than some of the Americans.

I just watched De-Lovely, the musical biopic about legendary songwriter Cole Porter (played well by Kevin Kline), and who showed up as a song-and-dance man (and one of Porter's many lovers) but John Barrowman! They sang a duet of "Night and Day" that was quite good. One more person for the inevitable Arrow/Flash/Legends/Supergirl musical episode.

There was another guy I could have sworn was a young Teddy Sears (Jay Garrick/Zoom on Flash), but it turned out he was Kevin McKidd.

So no explanation on how random college girl can use a device keyed to Laurel's vocal chords at levels higher than Laurel could right?

I think they kinda hand-waved it away by mentioning that she has really good grades, aka smart.

She did escape at the end of the episode though, so maybe we'll see more of her? :shepicide:

I dunno, I like Amell and when they've given him something to do he always delivers (There's the much earlier scene where he learns that Lance has been working with Dahrk where he's pretty great). It's just that the writers lean on him to be the most serious character in a serious show.

One thing I'm a little confused about. The Mayor is Dahrk's wife, so shouldn't it look pretty bad for her given that her husband has escaped prison?

Don't be scared
I haven't seen season four at all yet, but powering -- no, suffering through, season three, I understand now why everyone in this thread seemed to be hate-watching it.

But, at any point do they explain that Felicity has advanced understanding of physics and mechanical engineering? Because in this one epsiode (s3e15, I think) she walks into Ray Palmer's personal lab or whatever and is like, "Oooh is that a super zappy cold laser-momemter?! Do you know what could happen using that?" and he gives some super-science answer, knowing that she already knew that. I just thought she was a computer wizard?

That said, with where I'm at on this show, Palmer and Malcolm Merlin are the only characters I actually like. :(

Showdown in the Galaxy Era.

She's a Scientist. Not a scientist, in that she studied a particular area of interest and performs peer-reviewed studies focused on specific questions.

She's a Scientist. In that she is herself a superhero with the ability to know everything about all sciences and also engineering and also information technology.

TL;DR she is a technology wizard through magic. Cisco and Caitlin are, too.

Actually, in the latest episode of Flash, Caitlin is absent and Cisco acknowledges that his knowledge of biology isn't sufficient to figure out some biology stuff they need to defeat the villain. I think it's the first time in the series the writers explicitly pointed out that physics and mechanics != biology and chemistry.

New character regular being added to Season 5

quote:

"Arrow" season four is mere weeks away from wrapping for the summer, and the series is already looking to cast new actors for season five, including a charming-yet-dangerous new character named James. According to TVLine, James is a "man on a mission" who comes to Star City looking to avenge someone he lost to a violent crime in the past. The casting announcement describes him as follows:

The casting call seeks an actor of any ethnicity, in his late-20s to 30s and who comes across as a physical threat. The character is said to "just as easily shake your hand as your best friend or break your neck as your worst enemy — and you never know which one is coming. Either way, he’s more than capable of having a good time as he does it."

Any ideas?

This is exactly the thing. Amell can do a variety of things reasonably well but they tend to keep the character very one-note - grim and angry. I'm not sure it would make sense for him to be laughing and all smiles with things as they are, but I think part of the problem with Arrow is that they are so unrelentingly grim. Bleak situations actually work better if you give your audience something to contrast them against, some moments when things are good and real successes have happened. Basically all we got this season was Oliver and Felicity's happy suburban life right at the beginning, since then it has been unremitting bad times and it loses its punch after a while. They even walked back the one victory the team arguably had in redeeming John's brother.

Oh, and they put the idol back together. That was just so ridiculously dumb that they needed to create *some* kind of justification for why our heroes would do such an unspeakably stupid-rear end thing. It was in pieces. Scatter those things to the four winds. That was clearly a thing the writers hadn't really thought enough about.

I'm also finding it a little hard to believe that Oliver, who became such a specialist in cheating that he could fight the Flash to a standstill given time to prepare, can't figure out how to deal with a guy who has telekinesis, but I assume we're getting there.
