Is it possible to parry whips? I got invaded by a guy with a flame whip and that was obnoxious "death of a thousand cuts" bullcrap. I couldn't get near him to deal damage because his rolling and lacked reach on my own weaponry.

I did manage to corner him eventually but holy balls was it long and tedious.

It's actually much less severe than it seems, you start out with ~10 luck on most classes, and get +10 from using a hollow weapon in each hand, so it's only another 20 stat points.

man what

It feels kinda weird that the Washing Pole is literally a straight upgrade over the Uchigatana if you're the kind of guy that uses katanas.
Identical scaling at almost every level (sharp WP goes to B Dex one level later), WP has higher base damage, longer reach, swings just as fast, applies just as much bleeding. Because it has a longer reach it can also hit things slightly above you easier.

So uh I guess if you're a relative newbie watching the thread or whatever, don't upgrade your Uchigatana past +6 if you're using it, save your titanite chunks for when you can buy the Washing Pole and just use that.

The fact that everything cool in this game equipment-wise appear in the last 3/4th of the game is already putting a huge damper on my "make a bunch of gimmick runs" fun :( The fastest way to get a run going is to play through most of the game with a straight sword and then respec to whatever gimmick once you can finally pick up the weapon/spell and then.. Oops, game is almost over.

Anyone here dabbled in CE yet for this purpose? I know I could trade with a person over password in order to start out with the equipment I want, but that's a lot of effort and coordination for something that achieves the same thing as a couple of seconds in CE. The big difference is of course risk of banning, but how much "better" is the cheat detection this time? In DS2 I just did the CE'ing offline and then did my runs online and I never even got softbanned.

it's pretty weird they took out the ds2 balancing poo poo of critical adjust being the primary difference between a lot of weapons
i guess it's probably offset by the endurance cost on swings or something though

but for crit val. stuff the washing pole had an insane hitbox and did as much/more damage than the uchi on regular hits but had a crit. adjust of 130 so on counterhits, parries and backstabs it did less damag while the uchi had an adjust of 150 meaning that you could trade hits and do loving bonkers damage with it despite having a lesser hitbox/equal-or-less damage on non-counterhit stuff

god i miss powerstance uchis, counterhitting pve enemies for 800 damage per r1 swing was so fun

edit:
gently caress i can't find the video where an infant manages to kill people in pvp via pressing r1 with the chaos blade and trading hits over and over

Somebody tell me how the Darkmoon/Blue Sentinel covenants work, please...

I got someoned for Blue Sentinels once (!) over a 2 hour period. I figured if I keep the host alive and kill enemy phantoms, I'd get a Proof of Concord Kept sooner or later. Sure enough, there's Aldritch Faithfuls all over the place. We manage to take down two, but... nothing. At this point, I figured that either a) I have to land the finishing hit, not the host, since the host dealt the deathblows for both enemy phantoms, or b) I only get the Proof if I escort the host to the fog door.
Except I'm immediately booted out automatically once we reach the elevator to Anor Londo. What the gently caress? I get that you're automatically sent back at certain checkpoints, but does this mean I just plain can't earn Proofs if I get summoned to a location without fog doors? How does this work?

No idea how the Darkmoons work, I never got summoned ever :v: I've been hanging around the area after the Pontiff at SL80 or so, but nothing. No luck getting any Proofs to drop from the Silver Knights, either, despite item drop around ~400 or so.

Torso: Wolf Knight Armour
Hands: Sellsword Gauntlets

I think this is the most blue you can get on an outfit (Outside the cleric robes). It looks great, and while a lot of gloves work with this set the Sellsword gauntlets are asymmetrical so the more heavily armoured left arm gets a gauntlet while the left gets handwraps. This'll probably be my final armour set for my main character.

Here's how my guy's evolved through the game:

Yeah I only ever got tokens when I landed the killing blow. Sometimes it'll be a well kept token too but I can't figure out why that happens, wiki says aldrich faithful should give them but sometimes I get a regular token of aldrich and a well kept off a rosaria's fingers. I also get summoned to bluecop every 2 minutes :toot:

Well, great. So in the unlikely case that I DO get summoned, not only do I have to find the enemy phantom/-s in time, it's also a competition for killing them first? First I get invaded in Undead Settlement on my way to take care of Curse-rotted Greatwood and I totally punk this guy using some greatsword and shield with my whip. Then I get some summoned for jolly co-op against good ol' big dick tree and we trounce it with no troubles at all. I solo it fairly easily afterwards. And then I get a surprise mythical bluecop summon in Farron Keep and two invaders are trying to be sneaky and set up ambushes with one of them using the Obscuring Ring and me and my fellow phantom are having none of it and trounce both of them with little effort.

Apparently people just don't know how to deal with the whip since nobody uses the things ever. :whip:

Tonight is a good night. :unsmith:

From my brief experimenting with it, dealing with the whip seems to consist of "walk through the initial attack, hit whip user before they can do a second attack because it's slow and has no stagger". I guess hit and run could be viable, but the damage was piss-poor. I was using a pyromancer with only light dex investment thus far though and I have yet to get the fire whip, so this might change with full stat investment/the pyromancy scaling whip.
