So! Going back to our conversation about criteria for progressives, I've seen these proposed:

-Get big money out of politics. It is detrimental to our democracy and citizens united is a major cause of that. Also anti-corruption.
-Climate change is real and is the biggest threat we face. It must be addressed with strong legislation to stop the path we are on.
-The right to vote is sacred and must not be tampered with. What we have seen in Arizona, New York, and other states is a detriment to our Democracy. That must be fixed.

Eh, voter suppression to me implies something more willful and malicious than simple bureaucratic incompetence. But it is kind of a fine point, since bureaucratic incompetence that prevents people from voting is bad too, and arguably harder to address.

You could consider the suppression the willful and malicious intent of /not/ fixing recognized bureaucratic incompetence.

The action of willful inaction is still an action.

look i just feel like placing closed primaries in the same category as poll taxes and literacy tests is absurd. it literally tells you, right next to the party boxes, that you need to enroll with the party to vote in their primary. you have to actively choose to not vote in the primary. again, i think open primaries are better but this is hardly mt. everest here.

tbf a lot of the spam was a remnant of when each page counted as $ for bernie. so stuff like quoting posts and adding a :bernget: to them were from that. that basically stopped outside of a few times when ppl wanted their post count in the thread to go up. :v:

i'm not sure what else you think counts as spam tho so

(i hope it's not stuff like silly fan art cause that stuff was great imv)

I found a lot of the pointless, non-content posts to be hilarious.

And the off-topic conversations were the best part of the thread.

Spending 3 hours talking about 90s and 00s nostalgia in an election thread is kind of the greatest.

I liked it as a chat/random topic thread. Also the thread never really turned toxic like a lot of the other threads here have. Even at its worst, the thread just moved too fast for that.

Women's Right's stance? There's a lot of little things that need to be addressed that can be brought up without invoking the Terrible Dread of Feminism. Equalizing pay in the gender gap should be looked at, for example, and perhaps tampons and sanitary napkins should not be taxed and classified as a 'Luxury Item.' And there's the whole thing about not defunding Planned Parenthood, I'm looking at you Branstad you ignorant gently caress! :argh:
