I was emotionally satisfied with that as opposed to outright killing him.

Especially because he'd spent the entire story up to that point avoiding a direct confrontation between the two of you, so it was fitting to me that he be denied the honor that he had refused at every opportunity.

You have no idea how convenient and easy-going the game is nowadays compared to when it had just been launched. The Odyssean task of travelling the world of TOR has already been touched upon, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a few other examples of what players had to endure at the time:

- paying to train every ability, including upgrades to every ability (training everything up to level 50 would set you back several hundred thousand credits, if I recall);
- dealing with the absence of a costume designer, dyes, or even the simple ability to unify your outfit's colours (it was all too easy to end up looking like a kid's fashion ad from 1990 injected with a big dose of sci-fi and/or high fantasy, as dressed by the person in the picture here)
- receiving planetary commendations (the precursor to common crystals) that you could only spend on items belonging to a single planet, meaning in practice that you could only afford to buy stuff by the time you were done with a planet and were almost always undergeared.

Also, until update 4.0, companions only had one viable role (Treek excepted) and required their own full set of gear that you had to collect and then keep upgrading.

I hate how you have to physically fly to a planet to get quests to advance, meaning you can't use teleports. Also I hate every time a questgiver goes "This holocall isn't secure, please come fly to where I am" because I know for a fact I'm going to have to fly to them, run to where they are on the planet, talk to them, teleport to my stronghold, back to my ship, fly to this other planet, kill like, one dude, back to the stronghold, back to the ship, back to the planet, then finally back to the guy.

It gives me terror flashbacks of the linken questline in vanilla WoW.

But I'm also a huge Star Wars nerd... So I got sucked into SWTOR and loved it. The lack of polish and QOL didn't mean much to me, I last played a game where you frequently had to wait an hour to go from one area to another. Hell, I did my first 6 levels or so killing K'lor'slugs on Korriban because I didn't know that you got XP by doing the story, I figured you had to grind your levels like in the old RPG days.

I believe that all accounts that exist at the time will get the little robot but that's just a pet that passively follows you around.

The Trandoshan is the first companion for the Jedi Consular class and T7 is the first companion for the Jedi Knight so you won't get T7 on your Consular in the base game (although he's a companion for everyone in the most recent expansion, Knights of the Fallen Empire). Don't worry too much about your companions, you'll get more as you go trough the story.

The micro-transactions are pretty annoying as f2p but subscribing gives you basically all of the stuff you can buy as long as you're subbed (and you retain access to all released content including expansions that was available when your sub lapses). They really want you to subscribe and the system is set up to make that the path of least resistance.

There's a few minor quality of life things that you still need to buy (such as the short cooldown rocket boost and reduced cooldown fast travel) but all the basic things like artifact armour, dye unification, title display, hiding helmets, credit limit, warzone/operations/pvp weekly passes are all included in the sub fee. Subbing once will get you access to all the currently released content and will allow you to level characters to 65 even after the sub runs out.

A lot of people here tend to only play if they're subbed and will cancel their subs if they aren't going to play.

Yes, now, back in the day not only did you need more XP to level, "purple quests" gave less of it. Also flight points weren't automatically unlocked on planet fall, fast travel points didn't unlock on proximity (you still had to click on them), Sprint wasn't unlocked until level 15 or so, and speeder training was a 20-30-40 thing. Also speeder training cost a lot of money.

TOR at launch was very much of the "We need to make everything take as long as possible to keep that sub money flowing" mindset.

To be fair, the only endgame at launch was... Pretty much just starting an alt. At 50 EV and KP weren't in right away, were bugged when first added, so all you really had to do was Hard Mode flashpoints and PvP, along with dailies.

Awww I just remembered the daily run to gear up a new level 50. Old Enemies and Freeing the Fallen on Belsavis to get your purple armoring and mod for the day, then off to Ilum for the enhancement. Repeat until fully geared.

There really aren't any of those, I like playing whatever.

But yeah, it might be worth leveling up the other pubs. I already finished all the Imp stories, at least, so I get the title, and since we're not doing ops much right now, having a list of 65 to choose from to fit roles doesn't much matter.
