Job Details

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to serve as a Tourism Development Specialist for the Economic Advisor Group of Palau, in Koror, Palau. Palau’s tourism sector is the bread and butter of the economy, representing roughly 80% of total revenues. Therefore, it is critically important that the tourism strategy be updated to accommodate the dynamic nature of the industry. In addition, air traffic to Palau is crucially important to the tourist industry, and needs to play a central role in this tourism strategy. The government of Palau would like a PCRV to build the local capacity to review and update this business strategy.

A Tourism Development Specialist, with a background in the air-transportation industry, is needed to build the capacity of the Palau’s Economic Advisor Group, to update and revise the tourism strategy of Palau. The PCRV will work alongside their counterpart and other staff of the Economic Advisor Group in this assignment. There will be knowledge transfer over the 12-month period, which will build local capacities to continue the implementation process after the term of the PCRV. The PCRV also will work closely with the Palau Chamber of Commerce and the Bureau of Tourism, to ensure that the recommendations are in line with national growth objectives. Specific duties, responsibilities, and activities of this assignment will include: Working with the local counterpart to review the current airline environment for Palau; discussing with local counterparts policy and mid/long term strategies for the revision of the tourism plan; together with stakeholders, developing and proposing work processes that impact tourism development, including airport operations; training staff to develop a measurement system to track effectiveness of the revised plan; and, training local agencies and staff in this measurement system. The goal of this assignment is to build local capacity in Palau to plan for tourism and improve the tourism industry in the island nation, with special attention to the aviation sector.

Other Background Comments

The Republic of Palau, as is consistent with most nations in Micronesia, needs assistance with capacity-building. Often this has meant highly paid consultants, and the various governments in the Micronesian region are becoming increasingly hostile towards what they perceive are snake-oil salesmen. They've requested Response Volunteers in the US Peace Corps to serve them in many fields, sectors, and capacities. This is a phenomenal opportunity for an experienced American to serve their country, to serve our Palauan allies, and to experience a unique culture and way of life.

Peace Corps Response is distinct from regular Peace Corps service insofar as the services are shorter and the objectives more specific. "Short term, high impact" is our motto, and it's one that accurately describes the kind of service one will engage in. Response Volunteers, though necessarily unpaid, do receive a living allowance on par with the locals of the country served, a readjustment allowance to ease their transition back into the United States after service is completed, and complete free-of-charge medical coverage during service.

I am the Peace Corps Response Manager for the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. Feel free to drop me a PM for more details, or click the link above to apply through Peace Corps HQ in Washington D.C.

job posting

We are looking to hire someone to do content creation, and manage freelancers who also write said content.

We don't really have a job description yet. Ideally the person has some background or experience in health care - the content will be health related. Things like summarizing studies, building associations between conditions and treatments, etc.

We are a social network for folks with diseases.

Our offices just opened outside of DC (arlington), but about half the company is fully remote.

There is a preference for new hires to be local, but not a requirement.

PM for details if interested.

I'M TAKIN' YOU PUNKS DOWN!
Job posting

Medical Editor, Second Shift

We're a pharma ad agency in NYC, and we need support for our night staff (weekdays 4-midnight). Editorial at our agency is responsible for proofreading and copyediting (AMA style), of course, but also for factchecking and reviewing for FDA compliance issues. The night crew mostly concentrates on proofreading (the bulk of the other work being done while the day crew is around), but needs at times to provide the full range of services. We'll train the right candidate to do so if necessary.

Due to some departures, we're looking for two people right now, preferably one senior editor (someone who already has ample editorial experience at a pharma ad agency, and can assist the manager in running the group) and one entry-level editor. My ideal candidate for the latter would be someone who has some editorial experience, has a background in science or medicine, and doesn't mind working late hours. Only the last of these is non-negotiable, though; a former bio major who has a facility with words or an unspecialized copyeditor who has an interest in science could work very well.

If you think you're qualified for the senior role and are not turned off by the schedule, I want to hear from you yesterday. I'm not holding my breath for a great response there, but perhaps a few goons are curious about what this industry is like on the inside. PM for an official job description and other details.

Job Listing

Location: San Francisco Bay Area. Job would be about 50% at our office but you could telecommute for the rest of it.

Job: Contract Technical Writer

Job Length: At least 3 months, but probably longer.

Qualifications:

5+ years as a technical writer, including at least 2 years creating and managing documentation for customer-facing APIs or SDKs. The work should include both API details and introductory content. Experience with APIs published on the web, open to all, highly preferred.
Ability to think like, and write for, developers and non-developers
Basic HTML editing skills (you MUST be able to work directly with HTML)
Familiarity and ability with source control tools, especially git
Excellent written English

Description

Okay, so my company (late stage payments technology startup) is looking for a technical writer to help us update our customer-facing documentation. Currently, I'd describe what we have as good, not great, but there's not any one person who's responsible for writing and maintaining the docs, and it shows. We basically need someone who can take what we have, re-edit and re-organize it to make it more descriptive and user-friendly. There's also a lot of stuff that's documented in a rough form in a bunch of pdfs that we share directly with people when they start to integrate our technology, and it all needs to be translated into a more polished form that can stand on its own on the web.

If I had to classify what we're looking for, we need someone who's a writer first and a developer second. What we really is is document design plus strong writing and editing skills. But you also need a high degree of empathy for the experience of a developer looking to implement this stuff, and obviously you need the technical chops to read the code samples and understand how our products work.

Also, they aren't kidding about the HTML. Please know HTML.

About us
Catered lunch, snacks, game room, etc., all the stuff you'd expect for a successful Silicon Valley company. But what's pretty about working here is how much the company actually does care about its employees. This isn't one of those places where the management are amoral spergs that see workers as a resource to be controlled, value extracted and then discarded once they're too ground down to produce. poo poo gets done, but the crunch factor is very low. We're the anti-Amazon, basically.

Also, payments tech is a pretty interesting and dynamic space to be in right now, and there's a lot of opportunity to learn cool poo poo about how money moves. Our company is well-capitalized, our product is fairly unique, and we're growing like mad.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you what details I can.

Education: 4-year degree

Job Description: We are migrating a database from a paper-based/Excel system to a legit database. This position will be doing much of the actual data entry.
