If you're going to be using NNEDI3 to upscale, which I'd recommend if you have the budget and can keep your GPU cool without too much noise, you're going to want the strongest AMD card you can afford. NVIDIA has been garbage for anything even the least bit compute-y this generation and my 980 Ti cannot do all I want even for 23.976Hz content. If you're doing NNEDI3 I'd advise waiting for the next generation.

I was definitely planning on using NNEDI3, with as many neurons as I can run in real time. I'm not in any rush so I'll wait for Polaris, then. Thanks!

I should add that Pascal is expected to be much better than Maxwell for NNEDI3 and other compute tasks, so it shouldn't be so clear cut next gen. We'll have to wait and see which is better between Pascal and Polaris.

A ~limited edition~ version of the Tesla Powerwall that comes with a GP100 in it, for $5000 (marked up from the original $3500 for the top model). It'll be available in nothing other than nVidia green, so it'll match *nothing*. Because, as we know, everyone should not only have power storage capability, but a ~supercomputer~ in their house. Gotta beat the Chinese somehow, and ~everyone~ has $5000 laying around to spend on frivolous stuff...right?

GTX 950 if you want fully GPU-side decode of H265, otherwise 750 Ti.

The 750 Ti only has partially accelerated H265 decode - it's faster than nothing but it still uses the CPU some. The 950 has everything GPU side. Both of them have fully GPU-accelerated H264/etc so that's the main difference for a media PC. There isn't a ton of H265 out there, so you may not care about that.

Both come in low-power versions that can run without a 6-pin aux connector.

Also GTX 950 supports HDMI 2.0, 750Ti only 1.4.

Edit: after upgrading my computer to this decade I tried playing American and Euro Truck Simulator 2 and found them running much more worse than on the previous configuration using same settings. I fiddled with it for a couple of hours until I found that I had to disable adaptive power saving for the games -- apparently going from GTX 660 to GTX 670 gives so much more graphics oomph that the card kept itself powered down which resulted in 10-15 fps in-game. After enabling full power it seems to give out stable 60 fps.

Apparently a die shot of P11 and P10, rough comparisons.

P11 looks to be similar size as Bonaire (150mm²), P10 appears to be roughly 230mm². This kind of pushes the potential P11 SP count much higher than before, doesn't it? Seems a bit bigger than necessary for a mobile optimized chip and 1280SPs.

More than you don't need a 980/Ti in order to game at 1080p. A 770 would be kinda silly since right now unless you can get them for like <$100. Otherwise might as well get a 970, which should be fine for playing most new/upcoming games for the next year. The real play is to buy nothing just now and wait for the new releases in a month or two and see where that takes us.

They're not going to waste Elon Musk's time with 4K Gaming though... Amusingly it'd be Nvidia's Tesla chips that Musk would want to put in his self-driving Tesla. They're probably showing something more on the lines of that and what they are capable of.

I got a 770 for about $100 6 months ago in anticipation of a 1070 sometime this fall. I run at 1440p and the 770 is pretty solid. No problems with FO4 or XCom2 or anything. You can't run at max settings, but pretty close. If your computer is just sitting there unusable I'd do a 770 while you wait for the 10xx.

If they didn't have a good product that people want they'd put up useless bonus info like FLOPs/in.

When you do something like this it's often not because of the direct marketing pop. You're giving a handful of news outlets something to write about when they otherwise have nothing, and you're making them feel and look like insiders. Do you think that makes them more or less predisposed to your story when the launch happens?

Since this thread is moving so slow and we have no new information I just want to ask what is the deal with americans and mail-in rebates? How does it work? You mail in some code by snail mail to save some money but spend money/time doing it? I fail to see who benefits from it.

you print out a page with proof of purchase and they send you a check or card for the rebate. honestly, wasting all of 5 minutes for 30 dollars is a p great deal for me, but you must make way more than that if you consider it too much effort so yeah you are right

Unless I'm mistaken, the difference is who is offering the discount. If the retailer (newegg, in this case) has something on sale they just mark the price off, however if the manufacturer (XFX) wants to move product they offer a rebate instead of forcing the retailer to lower the price. Or something. I dunno.

I don't understand why I can't harass people online. Seriously, somebody please explain why I shouldn't be allowed to stalk others on social media!
Yeah I'd wager that a lot of people don't claim the mail in rebate out of laziness ("oh I'll just print it out and fill it out later..."), apathy ("do I really want to fill out this form for $10?"), or didn't know about the rebate. I think among a lot of 20-30 year olds, at least speaking from my own experience, we don't really have a stash of envelopes or postal stamps laying around either. So then I gotta decide if I really do want to pick up a box of 100 envelopes the next time I'm at the post office, and also find a place to buy a stamp, just to save a few bucks.

I think most people hate mail in rebates.

e: Who benefits is the manufacturer. They offer a mail in rebate for $20 back but expect that not even 50% of the people buying it will bother, or will even bother to cash in the check though now I think most of them offer prepaid cards.
