https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-Ed8mgJ5B0 I hope this leads to an embarrassing charity single. Both because it would be funny and it might shame the government into giving a poo poo instead of farming out social services to American tweenagers. Although I'm not holding out any hope on the latter.

I work with several people from Hull and they're all obsessed with this stuff called 'chip spice' that seems to not exist outside of Hull. Far as I can tell it's just basically like the special salt that Nandos do.

The way this cuts seatwise, SF are expected to lose one (to People Before Profit in West Belfast) and the UUP may return to the levels achieved last election - they lost three seats to defections since then (one to UKIP and two split off to form NI21, a liberal multi denomination unionist party that has all but folded). The SDLP may do enough to hold what they have which will be good news for them as they have been privately expecting the apocalypse. Two seats worth watching are Belfast South and Foyle (which covers Derry and its metropolitan area). Belfast South is probably the most liberal constituency in the province and captures a large part of Belfast's student population as well as affluent middle class neighbourhoods and a couple of working class areas. None of the candidates who contested the last election are standing again, notably former poll topper Anna Lo for Alliance. The SDLP clung onto the Westminster seat with the smallest share of the vote for any seat in the general election but are hoping the personal unpopularity of the candidate Alisdair McDonnell was to blame for that (he was leader at the time but was subsequently defeated in a leadership contest). The DUP are facing a challenge from a former party member turned renegade who is pulling campaign support from more hardline unionists connected to the flag protests looking to upset the parties decision parachute Peter Robinson's former SPAD into the seat. Foyle is a face-off between the SDLP and SF, Martin McGuinness has switched constituencies to run in Foyle against new SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and are looking to change the balance of power from 3 SDLP/2 SF to 3 SF/2 SDLP. With the subsequent squeeze its possible two other candidates could slip in to grab the last seat from SDLP/SF, veteran socialist commentator Eamonn McCann and an independent left wing candidate backed by dissident republican councillors who could scoop up the (unfortunately growing) dissident vote.

http://m.noisey.vice.com/en_uk/blog/sex-offender-glastonbury-court-curfew This seems like the judge has missed the point why the curfew was imposed in the first place. He's supposed to miss out on things. I think it'd be nice if the festival promoters refunded his ticket so he couldn't go after all.

Cerv posted:They've given up already. And amusingly their American home town has poverty to rival Glasgow It's a shame, because repeated governments, Westminster & Holyrood both, have failed to address the serious consequences of poverty in parts of Glasgow, especially relating to lowered life expectancy. If it takes patronising charity efforts from well-meaning Yanks to do something, I can't get offended by it. Obviously there are places that probably need that charity more urgently but people getting offended by it is a bit daft. But that's Weegies for you, a tad sensitive about their town.

I was walking through Southsea (note: not Portsmouth) this afternoon when what did I come across? It's been a whole year, comrades. I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed: And on the pedestal these words appear: CONTROLS ON IMMIGRATION.
