I get stuff signed as an excuse to say "hello, I like your work". I usually just get one thing signed of whatever I have on hand and don't really go for standing in line to do so cause I'm lazy. As such, most of my signed stuff is in collections that I buy from unknown artists peddling their wares in artist alley.

I like file boxes for their handles. If you can, only pack them half full of books and use the rest of the space for light stuff like clothes or towels to keep the weight down.

Yeah, boxes of books can be heavy as gently caress. There's not too much you need to do to protect them though.

I just fill the bigger boxes halfway and put linens on top. It sorta protects the books. These are pretty great for records and books. No tape needed. I picked them up at the box store for $2-ish apiece. Very reusable. sporklift fucked around with this message at 18:44 on May 4, 2016 |

Ikea Expedit + moving: move as-is, or try to disassemble first?

Neo_Reloaded posted:Ikea Expedit + moving: move as-is, or try to disassemble first? Disassemble, at least in part. I'm pretty sure they are constructed to bear a large amount of vertical force but almost no lateral force. If you can lie it flat that might be ok, or maybe if you rope it tight to the moving van.

If you have wide enough spaces to maneuver it through you can roll with it assembled. I took my 5x5 apart but left my 2x4, 2x2 and 1x5 assembled.

Do they disassemble and reassemble well? Or will it be looser from pulling the plugs out of the holes and everything? I have a 5x5 and am thinking it'd be quite an ordeal to get it down my stairs.

My friend fuckin' glued his together and when he moved he couldn't get it out of the room so he ended up leaving it behind.

I've moved them and helped other people move them fully assembled. A 4x4 or smaller shouldn't have a lot of trouble getting out of most any apartment or house, though I can see problems with a 5x5.

I bought a used 5x5 years ago and it came disassembled, put it back together and it works great.

Is it safe to iron a glossy (Marvel) trade paperback cover to try to get rid of creases? Is there anything I can do to get rid of creases?

Big Bad Voodoo Lou posted:Is it safe to iron a glossy (Marvel) trade paperback cover to try to get rid of creases? Is there anything I can do to get rid of creases? Ironing is bad for the laminate. Find a guy with a paper press, that's the safe way to fix it.

I'm sure I don't know anyone with a paper press, but thank you for the no-iron tip. Funny thing is, the creases bugged me so much, I bought a replacement copy, only now the trade dress on the spine (the Marvel logo at the top) has changed, so it no longer matches the other two volumes in that set. That might even bug me more than the creased cover, since I look at the spines every day.

I just read most of the Infinity Gauntlet omnibus for the first time last night, and it was different than the version in my head created through cultural osmosis. Two big things I kept expecting to happen that never did: 1) Blackbolt playing a big role and going berserk and 2) Captain America weilding Mjolnir. I imagine the Blackbolt thing is probably from more recent cosmic events (War of Kings or whatever?) but the Cap/Mjolnir one mystifies me even after extensive Googling. When Steve kinda made the hammer budge in the Age of Ultron movie, I thought everyone instantly latched onto it as teasing that this iconic Steve w/Mjolnir vs. Thanos confrontation was going to happen in Avengers 3/4. But if that never even happened in the comics, how did this idea just spontaneously erupt into being on such a widespread level?

# ? May 7, 2016 15:08 |

Cap picks up Mjolnir in a issue of Thor fairly early on in the Tom DeFalco / Ron Frenz run a couple of years before Infinity Gauntlet. It wasn't treated as an especially big deal - Thor had just gotten back (I believe) from fighting the Celestials on an alien world and was visiting the Avengers on their island base when they're attacked by some generic villains. Thor is separated from his hammer, and Cap picks it up in the heat of the battle and tosses it to him. It happened entirely because DeFalco decided that of course Captain America of all people should be worthy, and he wanted to get it down in the comic (it happened when Steve Rogers had been stripped of the Captain America identity and was just going by "the Captain", so it tied into that as well). It was pretty understated, really. Just a done-in-one Thor story that didn't tie into any bigger plot. I imagine it's because Captain America wielding Mjolnir is something that one would reasonably expect to be a huge dramatic moment, combined with the fact that the really famous scene in Infinity Gauntlet is Cap standing up to Thanos even after he's smashed his shield.

I can't wait for Cap's shield to break in the climax of the first third Avengers movie so you know poo poo's Going Down.

USPS flat rate medium boxes will fit 3 books. I really need to get my run of Epic Illustrated done. Also Aaron's Thor, WATXM, Secret Six, The Maxx, Automatic Kafka, The Boys, Fatale, The Fade Out, and my Uncanny X-men 255-280. My biggest problem is deciding th color schemes. If anyone has any suggestions on these binds...oh god they have really piled up

Norns posted:Those are gorgeous. How much does it end up being per book from those guys? Books start at $20 + shipping, but there's plenty of options to make them fancy. (http://www.herringandrobinsonbookbinders.com/html/comic_books.html) Books can be up to 2.5" thick, which is a LOT of issues, but I prefer to keep my books around 25 issues, because I find larger becomes a little unwieldy, but that's just, like, my opinion, man. I think the next thing I get bound will be Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers, and I want to see if I can arrange it so I can get it into 4 books. The 600+ page Knightfall collections are the biggest DC softcovers I have. Though they don't call those 'omnibuses' and I don't think they were ever hardcover in those versions. e: They've reprinted Jack Kirby 'omnibuses' from hard to softcover, but those were pretty slim. I can't think of them doing that for the big fatties. Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 04:12 on May 18, 2016 |
