BobTheJanitor posted:Does anyone else feel like Archdragon Peak was supposed to be a PvP area like the rat zones in 2? You've got the NPCs there that endlessly summon 'invaders' except the invaders are all NPCs as well. Plus it feels like there was supposed to be a covenant there that was pulled at the last minute. There's even that developer message about 'to walk the path of the dragon, do not ring the bell' or something like that. Which is pointless, because you can ring the bell and continue to do whatever you want in the level, either before or after killing NK. In general it feels a little bit like a zone that wasn't quite finished, and they just sanded off the rough edges and threw it out as-is. This was bothering me. So you miss out on nothing? This was while I was playing blind and I thought I'd just locked myself out of a covenant by pulling a lever. There's even the alter facing the giant dragon in the mountain that I was sure was the "offer your dragon scales to the almighty dragon" spot. Then I check the wiki after beating it and see there's not even a dragon covenant? Yeah, I'm not sure what the devs were going for with those messages.

It just flat-out doesn't seem to work for some people. I can confirm from experience that it does work--I've been helped by Sentinels and I get summoned as a Darkmoon very regularly myself--but lots and lots of people just never get summoned at all. Something's hosed up with network stuff, I'd guess.

Harrow posted:The password system letting you someone people across level boundaries (and scaling them down, to be fair) kinda kills low-level invasions dead. Sure, they're scaled-down, but they'll still have access to late-game weapons, spells, and rings and will ruin a "legitimate" low-level invader's day. Twinking is not really that good in this game. The best weapons in the game can be had before Farron Keep, and the big damage comes from upgrades and stat scaling. Raw is pretty much the best infusion until +5 or so, and it's trivial to get a chunk of health at low level and still do decent damage with a raw +3-4. The only bullshit thing to bring into low level PVP is Hornet Ring, which is placed way too far in the game in the first place and is way too big a bonus when backstabs/ripostes should just do around that damage in the first place.

Why do you assume I have an entourage or something? Often it's just me and some pvp dude invades and it's fine. I'm just saying it'd be cool to get a reward for winning.

Yeah it's one thing to be told to play offline if you've got friendly phantoms escorting you through the game but if you're by yourself and you don't want to be invaded there's no reason you should be online.

I had a few good fights smacking people with a cathedral knight great sword, but most of it was just oh here's a dude in armor and a weapon you can't get until the very end of the game, I'm sure they're not running around with a maxed out estus flask and a hornet ring for the sole purpose of being a dick.

I spent a lot of time helping people with Lothric last night with and without the prisoner's chain, and couldn't say the extra damage I took mattered. Finished the game last night. Stopped at 104. Spent a fair bit of time trying out a Str 40/Faith 30 build for the Dragonslayer's Greataxe and honestly didn't feel it, so I went back to a quality build and the BKGA. My version of the final boss proved disappointingly easy to handle--when I co-oped for some folks later I saw he had several moves that I never saw in my run. I guess I killed him too quick?

Usually in games when I'm playing with a buddy and someone ne'er-do-well happens across us we start planning our attack and how to deal with this and using the awesome power of our friendship to defeat the intruder and cheer each other one but I guess being a baby-back-bitch and crying at adversity is okay too you motherfuckre bitch idiot gently caress you crybaby rear end in a top hat fucker

One time I invaded in Undead Settlement and the gank squad was dressed as Smough and a Black Knight and I was standing there with my unreinforced club thinking about my life. Then I remembered this was exactly like Undead Parish in DS1 when you accidentally shot into someone's NG+ game and they ran at you with Mask of the Father, havel armor, and a super electric darkmoon washing pole.

I can respect that. Sadly there's no way to have one without the other. The only time I get pissed is when the invader just runs away for 5 hours. Other then that I just try have a good time with it. I know goons will make fun of me but I will bow and try fight them 1v1. When they still run forever it just gets boring.

If there's such a nonexistent reward to killing invaders, why the hell are there so many gank squads? You said yourself it's really cool to win a close, tense fight. You had fun in your game that you play for fun. I'm confused.

Well, invading you have to take the effort to go find someone to fight while also being balanced against between no embered hp bonus and halved estus flasks. Ganksquadding lets you have those advantages as well as furthering it by making it #v1 and forcing them to come to you. Then they get to feel smug and superior because they beat another player without much of the effort required to do so while invading themselves or doing redsign duels/fight clubs. Or maybe they just really don't like invaders and want to waste their time? Who knows, really.

I have never had a gank squad or anything like that. The only time some one showed up to help I was either already dead or I had already killed the guy. Sometimes you get a "good" invade and they are far far away. Other times you're in the goddamn archives and they drop down from above before their invasion message disappears from the screen lol. Basically if I kill an invader I should get their ember and a covenant item that can be traded for higher end upgrading stuff.

I just don't like how fast it all happens. If Estus wasn't instant healing, or if the animation took maybe twice as long, I think it'd be fine. I carry a full supply of undead hunter charms for this reason. People panic when that option is removed.

Something I'm finding weird is that From made all this big epic songs for almost every boss and you can't really appreciate them. Almost every fight is split into two phases, so the phase one music gets cut off constantly. Then phase two ends before you get far into that part of the song. So the only way you'd ever hear the full tracks is to listen to them outside of the game. Good thing they released an official soundtrack! Oh wait, the official soundtrack butchers most of those songs and cuts off huge chunks of them!

Hi Dark Spirit. I see you have invaded me. I too, like invading. I understand you have a hard time getting anything done with all the gank trains being run on you. Here, why don't I sit down so you can fight my phantom one on one, and if you win, you can fight me! I'll be honorobru samurai-sa-- Oh. Oh you're hitting me in the middle of my sitting gesture/running deep into the level/are a laggy mannequin piece of poo poo. I guess you're not going to make this quick and easy.
