If im a couple weeks out from ETS how do I get evaluated by the VA, should I start now or do it after ets? I have some documented back pain but nothing too crazy, I mostly want to make sure they cover my ambien from sleep issues I developed during deployment and itd be nice if they covered my adderall from when the army diagnosed me with ADD.

Ok, as someone who REFRADed, did the VA claim stuff, and still deal with problems with the system, let me tell you something that will help you.

Get an exit physical and put everything on it. EVERYTHING. And then get COPIES of all of it.

I claimed my shoulders and knees after I got off of active duty and they were like: "lool, nope!" because there was no time I ever said I had a problem with them on active duty (reason being, I popped advil and went to work like a moron).

I'm serious about this dude. If you have a yellow toenail, athaletes foot, some weird rash, freaking snoring even. Go to the TMC and get the doc to at least prescribe you some anti-fungal cream (that's perfect evidence for the VA by the way).

Get a hearing test, get a sleep study, get a freaking PTSD exam by the mental health clinic.

Once you've done all of this, here is what you're going to do.

1. Get DD-214
2. Gather copies of all those medical problems (physical, drug prescriptions, sick call slips, etc) and your DD-214
3. Call your local VA office, or google a veteran's organization that helps file claims near you, and get an appointment to get help filing a claim.
4. Slap all that paperwork on this person's desk and wait the 20 minutes or so it'll take them to type it all on the claim form.
5. Sign the form and watch them mail it.
6. Go home and wait for a letter with a bunch of VA appointments for everything you claimed.
7. Go to the appointments and let the VA doctors look you over (for whatever you claimed).
8. Go home and forget about the whole thing for 17 months or so. You'll get a letter from the VA about once a month telling you they're still working on your claim.
9. .............
10. Profit!

Someone in the army subreddit took the time to look through my comments to discover controversial opinions like "recruiters are scum," "I'd say its lost quality leaders because basically everyone with a brain leaves after one or two enlistments," and informed adults who are good at making decisions don't join the army.

Guilty as charged.

Pretty much this. I lost rotation of my forearm so I can no longer hold my left palm face up anymore. I got my rating back from the VA for that at 0% because there wasn't enough evidence.
Get everything on record, and I'm not saying to exxaterate the difficulty/pain level, but they need to know how bad it is on the worst day. They'll say "generally" or whatever, but they will gently caress you if you try to play hardass-gimmemotrin-nopain-soldier4life type of dude.

I ended up with loving Bruxism in my jaw rated at 10%. I didn't even know I had that, but luckily I got it checked out during the physical.

Go to sick call for everything and get it on paper. Who the gently caress cares if you go to sick call from now until you ETS, every single loving day. As long as you're getting your poo poo taken care of.

e: It's also great for trolling SNCOs. For example, the time that I slipped a provision into a CRM signed off on by an O6 that authorized my guys to wear tee shirts while working on projects on the FOB in heat category 4 or higher.

0% means there was some evidence. It just wasn't bad enough to rate a % over 0.

0% actually counts and is their way of saying "we own this, but it's not bad enough for a higher rating yet".

Anything you have 0% on go see a civilian doctor to get evidence that it's chronic/worse. Then use that as evidence to request a higher rating.

MOS requal in a TDA unit is one of the most unnecessarily complicated things I've ever seen.

Everywhere else: "Go do your requal, see you in two weeks."

TDA: "We're going to meet once a week for the next three months at a time convenient for exactly three people, god help you if you miss one because there's no back up plan and we cancelled the rest of the requals for the year."

So I have esapi side plates that CIF wont take, and arent on my clothing record (theyre from Manas, which is closed down now), and Im about to ets in a couple weeks, already did CIF turn in.

If I sell them will I get sent to federal pound you in the rear end prison? Also have a $400 aid bag with pulse oximeter, stethoscope, laryngoscope set etc. which I have no idea how to sell.
Not really wanting to take $1-2k worth of equipment to the surplus stores near post and get $50 for it.

If you don't have to turn it in and it's not stolen, it's yours to dispose of as you see fit. People can buy plates already, so long as they're willing to cough up for them. Could be an ITAR item, though.

Meh, if you want to offload them for cash and no questions yeah, you're going to get less than you "could". But isn't $250 (or whatever) better than nothing?

I was a provost marshal back before my injury and I can tell you MP's aren't going to help you (they aren't going to care either, why would you ask them?).

Funny provost marshal story: For some reason civilians think the MP's are THE place to get info on whatever. I had some 90 year old lady come in and try to turn in her husband's military issue .45. Dude fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Had 3 medals for valor in combat. I told her it was hers (as far as I was concerned). Then I offered her a bunch of money for it (she turned me down).

Do you guys want to hear some disgusting and horrific True Army Crime stuff? I could change a lot of the facts around.

Figured MP's only dealt with poo poo on post, not sure what these old retirees wives had to do there. They can't all have old .45's they want to turn in.

It can be lot's of things. People come to get post access also to complain about post access, etc. Some posts have the Provost Marshal also act as the head of Emergency Medical Services and/or the post fire department (oh, and there's also animal control!). Also, people come to complain about the MPs. A lot of old fat SGM wives come in to complain about MPs giving them tickets or not giving tickets to people they think should have tickets.

Had some furious lady call 3 times to demand that we STOP THE RABBITS loving IN HER FRONT YARD RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!! WHY ARE YOU NOT HERE STOPPING THEM!??!!?

And the on post stuff isn't really true. MP's sometimes patrol with local municipalities to "help out" on weekends and what not. Sometimes MP's are sent to patrol certain areas off post to take some of the workload off of local LE.

Nah they were driving out from Aberdeen to meet me in Olympia. I'd bet there's lots of them all around western washington though. Remember that survivalist shithead in North Bend that killed his wife and daughter "to protect them from the coming apocalypse"? He built a loving mountain hideout bunker with food and guns and ammo up the side of one of the mountains overlooking North Bend. Then he killed himself after the cops tried to gas him out of his bunker.

I spent a day driving around the Olympic Mountains and checking poo poo out and western Washington was surprisingly redneck. Saw more confederate flags out there than I did in Columbus.
