The lineup only looks infirm and feeble after Trump shredded them. When he announced, Trump was a joke candidate against the huge warchest of Walker, the name and establishment recognition of Bush, let alone the other more favoured candidates. I will say that when he announced, I thought he was the actual best candidate (NOT SAYING HE WOULD BE AN ACCEPTABLE ONE, just the rest of them ranged from scary to downright run the gently caress away in fear) but no one had any clue he would just destroy anything in his path and I certainly didn't think he would actually win the nomination.

Clinton might turn out to be more roadkill. I doubt it but Trump has beaten the Republican Party and I think anyone dismissing Trump now is wearing blinders. There is a lot of anger in the electorate and Trump is a uniquely teflon candidate with a real artform of cutting down opponents with great one liners. Well, you're entitled to your opinion but no, everyone in the republican field were weak and terrible candidates from day one, or Trump would not have shredded them. Walker was done before he started, he barely had popular support in his own state let alone nationally, and Bush was tarnished with some other guy named Bush who did ruin pretty much everything a mere 8 years ago. I get that the media has six months of 'this is a horse race' tickets to sell you and it'd be foolish of them to give up the storyline now but this is now the big leagues and not the local clown & pony show that the GOP primary was.

The number of people who are wowed by a candidate's ability to dish out the sick burns on his opponent with no actual policy or plan to back up his goal to be the president is limited/a minority in this country, they just got done picking their favorite - but the remaining people who aren't as easily impressed by the slick one-liners HAVE had a chance to see what Trump is about. He's not some sort of debutante coming out tonight to the rest of the nation who hasn't seen what he's up to or what he's about.

Do you think the Clinton campaign is going to treat his various bankruptcies, court cases, and whatever nefarious criminal bullshit he's gotten up to the last 30 years with as much delicate respect as these hard-hitting supercandidates he's just disemboweled did? I think they may not.

And you think Trump isnt going to double down on every even imagined scandal on Clinton? And you bet your bottom dollar he will find a one liner that will make her fodder for mocking. The sole thing the chattering class have had in common is severely underestimate Trump's ability to tear an opponent to pieces and to be complete teflon.

I read a pretty good article about Trump.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/04/america-tyranny-donald-trump.html

quote:

With his appeal to his own base locked up, Trump may well also shift to more moderate stances on social issues like abortion (he already wants to amend the GOP platform to a less draconian position) or gay and even transgender rights. He is consistent in his inconsistency, because, for him, winning is what counts. He has had a real case against Ted Cruz — that the senator has no base outside ideological-conservative quarters and is even less likely to win a general election. More potently, Trump has a worryingly strong argument against Clinton herself — or “crooked Hillary,” as he now dubs her.

His proposition is a simple one. Remember James Carville’s core question in the 1992 election: Change versus more of the same? That sentiment once elected Clinton’s husband; it could also elect her opponent this fall. If you like America as it is, vote Clinton. After all, she has been a member of the American political elite for a quarter-century. Clinton, moreover, has shown no ability to inspire or rally anyone but her longtime loyalists. She is lost in the new media and has struggled to put away a 74-year-old socialist who is barely a member of her party. Her own unfavorables are only 11 points lower than Trump’s (far higher than Obama’s, John Kerry’s, or Al Gore’s were at this point in the race), and the more she campaigns, the higher her unfavorables go (including in her own party). She has a Gore problem. The idea of welcoming her into your living room for the next four years can seem, at times, positively masochistic.

Well the thing is the boy who cried wolf has been shouting "Benghazi" and "Whitewater" and etc. for 40 years on Hillary Clinton, so any attacks at this point aren't going to feel quite as fresh. There isn't a lot the public hasn't heard about her alleged scandals or negatives at this point, she has been a public figure for a long time and you either care about her emails or you don't (the majority don't) and you either care about Benghazi or you don't (the majority don't.) Trump openly brags about his, shall we say, healthy disregard for 'the rules' if he doesn't think they apply to him and if his lawyers can find a third-world nation willing to comply with that belief and he's been doing that for an equally lengthy period of time - it's going to be one scandal after another trickled out about his golf courses and hotels and other business affairs for the next 6 months.

This narrative where the electorate is coming after the political class with baseball bats fails to take note of the fact that 3/4ths of the Final Four are longtime professional politicians. I just think that once we see The Donald have to face an actual grown up skilled campaigner, he's going to have many more troubles. I don't think Hillary's unfavorables can really go up significantly at this point, but that his sure can.

I hope I'm right because President Trump would be a hilarious bloodbath on everyone's bank account.

The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.
They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge.
Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away.
It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.

So there is an older V-6 Mustang (1999-2002 style) that one of the help desk employees at my office drives, and I noticed about a month ago that it was on one of those temporary spares. Didn't really think anything about it to be honest, everyone gets flats occasionally.

It's still riding on that donut spare today. I'm kind of concerned, as I think this is a single mother, and living on help desk salary can't be easy. I do a lot of charitable stuff, but it seems like charity close to home in this case would make a lot of sense, but I'm kind of at a loss as to how to even approach the idea of helping her, as a single older guy who works in the same building, but otherwise doesn't know this person (i.e. would I be the creepy old guy who got a harassment complaint). I'd also sort of like to be sure that it's a case of someone who really honestly can't afford to replace the tire, rather than just a dumb young person who would rather spend her money on the latest iPhone or whatever...

Any suggestions, or am I stupid for even thinking about trying to help some random person who works in my building rather than giving money to 'charity x' when I have no idea what her story is?

Been wondering what the hell happened to a friend of mine - he dropped off the face of the earth in January.

Glanced at his facebook page yesterday, noticed his sister had made a post on there saying he was alive and to contact her if anyone wanted to know what was going on. So I did that.

I'm both relieved and pissed off. Relieved because he's alive. Pissed off because the reason he dropped off the earth is because he's in state prison.... for violating his (drug-related) probation (repeatedly). He's going to be there for a year.

Dumbass. At least they have video calling, so I can call him a dumbass to his face via internet. :v:

DELIVERY STORY. Only mildly interesting. Had one today that was way, way out. The address put it in a very ritzy suburb, but it was on the far edges of that town. I felt like I was walking into a scene from Deliverance when I parked, it was that... secluded. Also the neighbor across the street having an old school bus parked in their front yard didn't help, neither did the dogs that ran out to greet me (DOGGIES! :neckbeard: one tried to get in my car with me).

Couldn't find the house from the road, eventually found the mailbox and an overgrown dirt path that wound up being a driveway.

Really nice people though, and really nice dogs.

I know Blackboard certainly can track all of this, even right down to how long you take to compose a post in a discussion class. I've wound up becoming friends with a few of my instructors over the years, and one of them was more than happy to tell me everything Blackboard reported (he showed me some of the reporting, though it was from a completely different class at a different campus, so I didn't see any info from anybody I knew - he probably shouldn't have shown me that stuff, but meh).

This was an absolutely ancient version of Blackboard even at the time (2010), I'm sure newer versions can do much more.

I've had issues with people saying they can't hear me on phone calls (because of the call breaking up). Today my phone went full retard on me and decided it would only connect to AT&T, and mostly only their EDGE network (I've roamed onto their HSPA/HSPA+ network plenty in the past, I've been seeing HSPA pop up occasionally while roaming). Even after a restart, even after triple checking all the carrier settings. It got some percussive persuasion when I got frustrated, and LTE + T-Mobile came back for the rest of the day.

Guessing either a bad solder joint or a loose antenna connection. Either way !!!THIS IS AFFECTING PRODUCTION!!!11!1! (actually it really is, it takes a poo poo while I'm working, and I can't call customers), so I'm going to switch back to my old phone for now. Just checked Motorola's website, it's still covered under warranty. It's a shame, I love the everything about the phone except for the whole "signal what signal" bit. What's weird is it's never flat out dropped a call, but the call quality is so bad now that unless I'm sitting still, I can't make calls anymore. Going to try flashing the radio again, but I'm pretty sure something is physically hosed on it.
