It's primarily a capacity thing, but the shorter journey times will make a difference to all cities along the line, and even those along the old lines by creating additional capacity there. It will be built in stages, but the north will benefit even from just that initial London-Birmingham stage.

So more people in places like Birmingham can be told, 'What do you mean there are no jobs, there's a super fast train to London where we've made loads of new jobs!' Its designed to increase the workforce for London so it can be the only place with any investment whilst making sure none of the plebs have to live there.

It's not one or the other at all when it comes to new railway lines. Quite the opposite actually: this will create more capacity for local commuter services along the traditional lines as well. And it will benefit journeys all across the country. I don't think I'll use this line more than once a year but I'm still very much in favour.

i would prefer they built an actual mass transit system in the city to the possibility of some more frequent trains to coventry and solihull

I like this having two votes business, I got to support Sadiq and honestly tell the extremely attractive Green party canvasser outside Tufnell Park station that her party would be my first choice.

The polling station was deserted at 6:15pm though, which is probably a bad sign for turnout.

Super injunctions were pioneered by global firms wishing to cover up illegal/immoral activity which might be considered commercially sensitive. ASAIK the first was a mining corporation which was dumping toxic chemicals in Bangladesh. The fact they are now used by rich individuals to "protect" their family (which just coincidentally protects their own career) is a by-product.
The firm you're thinking of is Trafigura. Not sure if they pioneered the idea or were just famous early adopters, though.

Police and Crime Commissioners are a stupid non-position that shouldn't be an elected office, but nevertheless, they do have powers over local police spending, and it's worth voting for them on that basis to prevent outright nutjobs from getting the position.
