And I'm willing to bet that a goodly number, not all but a lot, of the dreaded sjws are kids in their teens or early twenties who are still trying to figure out their identity and place in the world. While the alt-right seems to have a higher average age, giving them less of an excuse.

Yeah as far as I can tell the transracial otherkin type of tumblrite is almost entirely composed of young people trying to come to terms with their own identity and society as a whole and growing up and all that junk.

However I don't know if the alt-right is that much older. I guess the "figureheads" (if you can call them that) tend to be, but I just can't see older people going to /pol/ in any sort of large numbers.
I wonder if the edgelord alt-right bullshit is largely unique to my generation. Obviously Internet bullying is a thing with teenagers right now, but...well, I'm the same age as Milo Yiannopoulos, and I remember growing up in the 90s when pearl-clutching parents were blaming social problems on video games and heavy metal and black clothes. At that time, anything that was provocative, edgy, or concerned with disturbing themes gained an instant veneer of intellectual respectability to me and a lot of my friends. As an adult I recognize that mindset as sophomoric, and I immediately recognize people like Yiannopoulos as mentally arrested at the age of about 15. But I wonder how many 15-year-olds today have that same ingrained attitude as many of my generation.

(My attitude towards "alt-right" morons trying to equate tumblrina robocops to extreme right-wingers is this: Call me when there's a transgender otherkin Dylann Roof, and I'll give a poo poo.)

It's just another manifestation of the unwarranted self-importance that libertarians have been rocking for generations. All the desires for anti-democracy are there it's just this flavour of idiot comes out and idolises dictatorship because they see Pinochet as a man who stuck it to the lefty-statists and think his human rights abuses were a Good Thing because they happened primarily to lefties.

Yep, that shooter. Ted Cruz actually used that as the deflection - we don't need gun restrictions we need mental health checks to keep these radical trans people from getting guns.

Dumb contrarianism springs eternal among american teenagers and some proportion of american teenagers will become mentally arrested at 15. You're right that the contrarianism of 90s teens was fixated on think-of-the-children moral crusades and post-civil rights "political correctness." What are the big concerns about kids today? Some of the enthusiasm for multiplying sexual identities and wide-ranging accusations of cultural appropriation or insensitivity might be a partial response to the post-Clinton neocon hell we're kind of escaping now.

From the Wiki article on him:

quote:

McInnes co-founded Vice in 1994. His role as an editor at Vice led to him being referred to as "the Godfather of hipsterdom" and one of the "primary architects of hipsterdom".
I'm pretty sure that translates to "he was a hipster before it was cool to be a hipster." :smuggo:

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.
So we're all aware that Vox Day and company have managed to gently caress the Hugo nominations again this year. There was no pretense at anything but trolling on their ballot choices this time, as exemplified by the presence of Amazon Porn Machine Chuck Tingle's "Space Raptor Butt Invasion" in the list for Best Short Story.
