https://twitter.com/AUTOSPORT_web/status/726283350957133826 Autopolis is still closed until May 16th, and have shown more of the damage from the earthquakes. There was supposed to be Super Formula there this weekend, and I believe Super GT has been delayed as well.

Well, another drag racer airlifted out because drag strips don't have loving catch fences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TmP5KMT_SM

What's the main reason for strips not having catch fencing? Obstructing spectator view? Fence "technology" to work effectively when the top fuel guys hit over 300? Cost?

To be honest, I don't even think it's been considered at that level. I have no good reason why. It likely wouldn't help stop an airborne fuel car but at least it'd stop the parts. It likely would have put this car back on the track, though. e- for fucks sake at least pave the grass lmao

No Formula E race next month. Moscow fell to political in-fighting, Donington is booked and Monaco has said they couldn't have the course ready in time. There's apparently doubt over whether the GB Rally for WRC is going to happen either after the land owner raised the fees they're asking for to cover road damage.

Cygni posted:That's still a better surface than like 99% of tracks in the rest of the world Was announced this week that the Autopolis Super GT round has been canceled for this year, and a two-heat makeup race has been scheduled for later in the year at Fuji Speedway. Speaking of which, I need to go sort a boatload of photos from Super GT this week...Fuji Speedway is kind of a pain to get out to, but the facility itself is pretty amazing.

Toyota has gotten lucky with problems on the other teams today but all three teams now all seem in the same rough range in terms of pace at least on this track. Hopefully this means Le Mans will be fun this year.

How were Toyota looking in the actual pace area? Looks like their car is a good step forward over the previous model

Race fast laps: Audi #8 - 1:59.952 Audi #7 - 2:00.062 Porsche #2 - 1:59.140 Porsche #1 - 1:58.431 Toyota #5 - 1:59.740 Toyota #6 - 2:00.177 Looks like Porsche still has a pretty big edge, but Audi and Toyota are real close.

Race 2 and 3 shortened to 12 laps because Dunlop sucks.

# ? May 8, 2016 13:59 |

This has been happening at Thruxton for YEARS, and it was usually Dunlop going "we told you what tyre settings to run, dipshits" so I would blame the teams and drivers more than anything
|
# ? May 8, 2016 14:19 |
|
Commentators are saying the shorter race means most drivers are probably gonna just push harder from the start and wreck their tires anyway so that sounds about right.
