Man MiBe is HARD. It's highly susceptible to overconfidence. I keep splatting them with my finger firmly pressing the tab key and getting myself into dangerous situations. Thing is 99% of the time it's fine, just push tab, if you get to 60% do a bit of ab, maybe aa and you're good to go. I keep getting to Lair in like 5 minutes and then splat when I should have known better.

This is considered optimal trog play

Minotaur berserker is one of Crawl's easy mode combos. Which isn't to say dying as one is impossible, but just that if you die as one its almost completely due to error on your part. So examining your deaths can be a good way to learn what kind of mistakes you make and avoid them in the future. Overconfidence is definitely a big problem, espeically for a combo that can just walk over most threats. You don't give stuff the respect it deserves and then get flattened by some death yaks.

No idea. "Cast into level 2 of the Abyss (orc priest)" is what the morgue file says. I was playing an orc and there was a "join or die" moment, which I've never seen before and must be a recent addition.

It might be my imagination but maybe it had something to do with the fact that I enslaved it, healed up, and then proceeded to attack it while still charmed :commissar:

yeah, they changed it so that you can become a Beoghite (as an orc, obv) from finding an Orc Priest and accepting the invitation. Other than that, yeah it was probably wielding distortion. Good news is that if an enemy has a branded weapon equipped you can see what brand it is, so just be on the lookout for that kind of thing next time. Early branded weapons are nasty as heck

There's an "Ongoing Games" section above "Wins" in the clan pages which shows each player that currently has a game going.

Sadly I checked and it appears there isn't an Ogre playing on your team. :ohdear:

Japanese Dating Sim: Nov 12, 2003; hehe; Lipstick Apathy

Just finished my first 15 rune win. DsBe, had never even entered Pandemonium before this... pretty happy. Got lucky with the DS mutations, pretty much got the best set possible as far as I'm concerned. There were only really 3 instances where I thought I might die: one on floor 16 or so of a ziggurat that was angel-themed (not great as a Demonspawn!), against Cerebov, and then against Gloorx Vloq (who I killed by spamming scrolls of summoning. 3 Executioners blocked a doorway for me and took him down pretty quick).

Not bad, although your weapon selection and training up 3 (!) weapon skills is rather suspect. I can see why you chose the war axe with the elec brand and the rF++ but you would definitely be dealing greater damage by picking up a broad axe or eveningstar/demon whip and enchanting it up. We also typically advise people to train up one weapon skill because the experience is wasted on the second while you're not wielding one of that type. All that experience into Maces & Flails and Long Blades could have instead been spent into maxing out Throwing and Evocations.

Congratulations all the same, you did well considering this is your first time for 15 runes AND making it more than halfway through a Ziggurat and then just under half of a second.

There. 15 rune win, and first win for Flying Purple Eater People. All pan lords and all hell lords down. I did do the TSO switch, which worked fine. Trog wrath is a breeze when you are this buff. This guy had good luck with gear, so the postgame was pretty easy.

1h+shield worked fine. Eveningstars seem like a solid one hander. It was nice to be able to switch between antimagic and holy eveningstars as necessary.

The biggest surprise, as somebody who hasn't played for a couple of versions, were Iron Giants in Dis. I can melee one of them if they are alone, but having them knock you around is very dangerous if tormenting things are around. Thankfully I had throwing trained up high, so I switched to introducing them to steel javelins.

Man, melee staves are seriously underrated. The stats on a lajatang are literally "great mace with one fewer point of base damage & one more point of accuracy, and hits mindelay 6 skill levels earlier." And quarterstaves do enough damage to handle earlygame easier than any other startweapon.

I know the downside is how stupidly rare lajatangs are, but it's not much of a downside if you were planning on going Oka or Trog. :v:

Oka might be an issue depending on race/background because you'll have to rely on a quarterstaff for a while and will be pretty weak for a while

although I guess a berserker can deal with it better because they get a strong god from turn 1

They have existed for a while, and they are clearable. It usually involves multiple level 9 spells and some way of mitigating LoS (Fire Storm surprisingly does both with the fire vortex spawns), and having lots of HP and rF+++. This assumes that you are also worshipping either Gozag or Makhleb to either distract the OoFs as you kill the chaff with your level 9 spells, or heal up to full constantly. I think Chaos floors (the ones filled with pan lords) can be much scarier due to the random spell sets sometimes resulting in instadeath combinations.

Phew, okay, so my MiBe has made it to four runes and I'd like to take a crack at 15 runes, but I've never done extended before (except one Tomb attempt many, many versions ago). Hell, I haven't gotten this far since... uh, .13? So advice on what to do next would be very appreciated.

I see blurry vision and my drooling-vegetable level intelligence as my main issues right now (thank god stat death is gone or I would've been dead already). Is now the time to go TSO? Should I do Slime first? What should I be looking at skill-wise? Are my javelins enough of a ranged option or should I diversify?

for other brands you can replace that with "distortion" with (distortion|venom|electrocution)
