No, unfortunately. It does too little damage and has too little stat scaling, you're just going to be tickling everything in the later two thirds of the game. The Composite bow has the same shooting animations as the short bow, but hits a little harder, yet it is also too piddly to be useful. The Rapid Fire shots do even less damage.

You can also take an extra-fast shot while coming out of a roll or a sprint, which looks cool, but does not deliver meaningful amounts of pain.
I would like the Quick Shot skill more if it did not reduce your arrows to Tickle Damage. It still costs FP to use, Jesus, just make it deal 75% damage but take more FP, or something.

I suppose the rebuttal to that would be "But you don't need FP to use weapon arts", but still, what the gently caress quick shot? It would literally be faster for me to kill things with normal shots, and take less arrows to do it.

"I'll finish off this jailer with my sweet quickshots before he can get close! It would only take two-three normal ones but this is faster! *arrow arrow arrow arrow Oh gently caress ARROW ARROW OH gently caress ARROW* And he's dead right before he hits me, with my shrunken health bar.... Why do I keep trying to use Quick shot again? Maybe it helps more in PvP?"

Arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow arrow "Well, I think I might have hit their chain dodges with ONE ARROW so far? Totally worth it-oh right, fractional damage"

That said, I still try to keep at LEAST some kind of bow on my swiss army arsenal. When enemies are too stubborn to get pulled, even a shortbow can get the job done for telling an enemy to go gently caress himself with some patience.

Thinking of using a save backup in order to respec into this build as a dedicated PvP thing:
http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3/11524

My intent is to spend most of the time using all that stamina to dodge and make quick little jabs with a fully upgraded lightning rapier, while using the composite bow as backup to hammer them from a distance of they try to make space. I've been spending some time fooling around with the rapier's skill set and they've really started to grow on me. I get the feeling that if you can master the timing both skills would be really effective against anyone not using a shield & spear build.
The faith and attunement would also let me carry around a few basic miracles for buffs, healing, and maybe something like force to give me breathing room or open them up for an attack.
I was also considering using a fully upgraded blessed target shield to A. Force myself to practice parrying in PvP and B. Give myself a decent passive regen buff to give me some longevity while I dodge.

Obviously it would be mediocre in PvE but given that I'm doing this as a test build using save backups, it's not like there'd be too much time investment before I get started. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or criticisms?

Edit: Main things I'm uncertain on are my choice of rings, and the exact distribution of points between strength, dexterity, and faith. I'm kind of considerings dropping faith by 5-7 points and throwing those into strength and vitality to let me carry either a lothric knight shield or a silver knight shield, to provide me with a bit better defensive options, while still staying in middle weight class. As for rings I was considering the hornet ring, but I don't think I'm consistently good enough at parrying for it to be worthwhile though. The Leo ring is appealing though. +15% damage if I hit an enemy during their attack animations, and it works for the rapier and the bow.

To be fair with most of them the AR is deceptively low. Two handed L1 costs only a bit more stamina and deals basically more than two normal attacks worth of damage, right?

I think I misinterpreted it. Looks like base AR is the same but they've adjusted the normally reduced AR of the rapid L1 specifically.

As for Aldia, well, while he's nowhere to be seen, his legacy still exists in the Grand Archive. There's a bunch of items that mention the Scholar (capitalized just like that), and while it may be a different person, Soul Stream says Scholar is the one that basically taught Lothric that hey, linking the flame sucks, don't do it. And that's kinda what Aldia was going for in the end.
Also Soul Stream was basically Soul Geyser in DS2 and surprise, that's an Aldia heirloom.

I'm amused at how much the design resembles a villain from Conan.

It's all about the Carthus Rouge with any Luck build. The base damage is nothing special (except for Anri's sword) but innate bleed + Carthus Rouge = crazy fast bleeding.

That WAS with carthus rouge. Anri's bled better and hit much, much harder.

Soul Level 150 seems pretty high. I get plenty of hits at SL 100. Maybe 150 is working out for most folks? That's a lot of levels considering it costs about 60k souls to get to level 101.
You may as well get all the +2 versions of the rings. And I would recommend a Life Ring +3 over a Speckled Stoneplate.
Can't speak for miracles in PVP. I would say mostly unimpressive, I would recommend a pyro build. Also builds like this depend a lot on self-buffs, so expect to get Duel Charmed.

edit: Scratch that - Leo ring over speckled Stoneplate ring seeing as this is a pokey-build.

Oh, I know SL 150 is way above average, but like I said, this isn't a new character, this is me backing up my save and then respeccing an existing character (specifically, the very first one I made, when I was grinding up every level I could on my very first playthrough.) 150 still gets plenty of hits in the later NG+ areas, pontiff's bonfire especially.
As for the +2 versions of rings, for the moment I'm sticking in NG+ (like I said, respec of existing file) so +1 is the best I have available. Mostly this is just a proof of concept sort of thing, to see how well it actually works out in PvP.

All that aside, I think you have a point with the pyromancy thing. Buffs are hard o pull off mid fight, but with my dex I could probably throw out some decent pyromancy pretty quickly. The speckled stoneplate I mostly tacked on because I was worried about some stray hit from a buffed up sword wrecking me, but now that I look at the shear amount of health I'll have that doesn't seem like it'll be an issue.

Any thoughts on my swapping out the grass crest for a heavier shield?

Both are pretty decent but I'd lean towards wolf knight GS. Farron is good, especially if you're good at parrying since that's it's skill, but aside from it's unique L1 it hits pretty slow. Wolf knight is faster, aside from an inexplicably slow one handed r2, and it has both of it's stance techniques are excellent in PvE, though the heavy one is pretty useless in PvP since you can see it coming a mile away.
As for scaling, farron gets better dex scaling, but once the wolf knight is leveled up it's a... I think high C rank in both strength and dex, so it's good for mixed builds.

Tl:dr; it's kind of a tossup on whether you want the nice parrying of farron or the nice variety of techniques from wolf knight.

I would recommend going lighter where you can - including shields - and see if you can take some levels out of Vitality :v:, that's just my personal playstyle though. The stamina regen on the grass crest shield is nothing to write home about. If you decide to use offensive miracles, including lightning buffs on your weapon then Morne's ring is something to consider as a replacement for the steel protection ring or cloranthy ring.

But seriously the Leo Ring is a must on a build like this. +15% damage on an attack that already gets counter bonuses is amazing. I have a SL 70 dex/rapier build that will easily get 400-ish damage unbuffed on a good poke with a sharp ricard's rapier.

As an addendum, the Big Wolf Sword also gets a big bonus to damage against several abyss-tainted bosses, and will hit harder overall after more stats investment.

The Farron sword can't be used two-handed, because when you press the button, your guy pulls out that knifey thing. If you like parrying and using a one-handed greatsword, you might like it better.

1. If the level spread is wide, it can take a minute or two for the match-making to get you together. I haven't had many problems recently. Usually my friend and I get matched in less than 1 minute.
-Some areas are more obnoxious than others. Road of Sacrifice for example only allows 1 summon default. Not aware of any other exceptions. Technically shouldn't matter.
-You can not summon in areas that do not have bosses. This includes areas you have killed bosses. Red signs do work, however. If you're looking to trade up it is probably best to drop red signs, since you don't even need to be embered to see them.

2. Don't believe so. Same for upgrade materials, boss souls, and maybe boss soul weapons? Also, you can not drop gear that is a higher upgrade level than whatever is currently your highest.

The straight sword just lets you case sorceries with your faith stat or something. e: it works fine in either hand, and you don't even need to meet stat requirements for the bonus, it just has to be "active", if not necessarily in-hand, so you can 2hand another weapon.
