It's definitely a worn out premise, but they do some really good things with it. Them at the alien marriage counselling place was amazing.
Jerry on his own can be good, but I just can't ever get into "Jerry and Beth are fighting again" because it always plays out exactly the same way. They pick at each other's insecurities for no reason, they fight some bugs or zombies or whatever, and they declare their undying love for each other. Repeat for the next episode.

Season 3 might finally do something about that, since Jerry and Beth will probably be on opposite sides of what to do about Rick. I just don't want the same lame, schmaltzy speech about how we're a family, dammit, and who says we can't love each other?!

e: I think my beef is that it feels like the show is pulling its punches. Like, Rick will just shoot down Morty's optimism, or the universe can get blown up, but they'll use Jerry/Beth to create this fake upbeat ending that will just be forgotten at the start of the next episode.

Honestly the worst thing about Roiland is probably just his high levels of social awkwardness and naivete about certain things. I forget exactly what it was but he had to have some social/political correctness issue explained to him like during a writing session because he seriously had no idea about it, I forget if this was mentioned in an interview or one of the commentaries in season 1.

I sorta wish they'd find a way to pick that back up now, but I suppose Cosby still has money and lawyers, and recent events might effect the show in negative ways.

They've been doing that man in a baby body recurring sketch for years. It might even predate Rick and Morty.

It predates R&M, but it also makes no sense, because they describe him as having "the body of a baby", but he doesn't. He has the body of an adult but the coordination and reflexes of a baby.

Jeez they're still doing that character? It was pretty funny the first time I saw it because to be fair the dude does have the mannerisms of an actual baby pretty down pat. But I also can't see it being funny more than one time. Then again I guess that is SNL's whole m.o.

I think the "body of a baby" thing is referring to his body having a mind of its own. Like it does stuff outside of his control and reacts to things the way a baby would.

Yeah... honestly that episode was so bad. They had Jay Pharrel doing his same "famous black people impersonations talk to each other" thing he's done a few times before, and they did baby body guy again, and they did something else too.... like literally half the sketches were just repeats of past sketches. :effort:

To be fair, they did it a few times, and then they didn't do it again until last weekend's show. It seems like we went at least a year without seeing that character after seeing him a few times in a couple of months back when they started doing it.

So, they're not running it into the ground.

Yet.
