I've read Starting Strength and thus am qualified to give advice on anything remotely fitness related. Trying to qualify for the olympic fencing team? Let me tell you about the low bar squat...

It's PR week! Started it off with a 3x250 bench. Hyped to lift heavy things all week long.

hey guys, my knee acted up for the first time in like 2 weeks tonight. I got bummed out and left the gym, it doesn't hurt bad at all, so it may still be getting better but still, I want to get it fixed asap. my only question is which is the best type of specialist to see in regards to this stuff and lifting? a physiotherapist? sports medicine doctor? Do I need a regular doctor rec or can you book appointments straight with them?

Do I need a regular doctor rec or can you book appointments straight with them? You want to see someone who typically treats athletes/active people, but your insurance may require you to get a referral from your PCP to see a specialist such as a sports PT. While chiropractors are generally quacks, it's sometimes easier to see one without a referral and there are sports chiros who specialize in ART which is geared towards loosening up adhesions and tight muscles in small doses of 15 minute sessions. There's also getting a deep tissue massage (again from someone who typically treats athletes and active people) and telling the therapist about where you're experiencing the pain in your knee. If you have health insurance, the PT and chiro will be covered but the massage probably won't. The sports PT would be more likely to show you how to stretch and roll your lower body to help with the pain, and if the sports chiro is any good they should be able to as well.

Oh yea I got "Saving Private Ryan" hearing after my working set of squats yesterday. It was pretty cool but part of me was thinking "you're stroking out" but then it got better.

Since I added squats to back day last week they've been cake. I'll hit that weak-rear end milestone I should have hit eight years ago, in no time. Went for a sixth rep on my last set today and felt a bit of a pain on the right side of my lower back, though, so I elected to cut the workout short after leg extensions because I didn't want to exacerbate by potentially hyper-extending my back doing leg curls. Can't wait for next week.

Might as well turn it into a giant log for people who don't feel like making TFLC threads. On that note....I canceled my gym membership. Schedule's all hosed up; gonna just spend more time biking and do some stuff with my dumbbells at home.

Yesterday at home I was stretching by doing an a2g bodyweight squat and holding it. I unleashed a fart so bad I had to open a window. I'm really sad I didn't do that at the gym so I could share the love.

How do you "hold" a bodyweight squat? Aren't you relaxed at the bottom? Like when drinking beers and smoking with friends?
